Phil Spencer has revealed information about Microsoft’s plans to buy Activision King. The head of Xbox states that the purchase of Activision King is primarily motivated by the availability of mobile gaming.

There is much-undeveloped potential in this sector, which is expanding at an unprecedented rate. In addition, King’s market dominance and industry expertise will significantly help Xbox as it extends its services to mobile devices.

The acquisition of Activision has sparked controversy in the video game industry, with several influential people opposing the decision because it could harm gamers’ interests. However, despite the uproar, Microsoft has assured its customers that the deal will not adversely affect them, reiterating its commitment to putting their needs first.

Microsoft’s expansion to mobile platforms

Phil Spencer revealed the intriguing details behind Microsoft’s intentions to buy Activision King. No matter the platform, the firm wants all gamers to have access to its games. However, Phil has said that Xbox does not now have the expertise to enter the mobile gaming market.

With various renowned games like Candy Crush, companies like Activision King have dominated the market. In February 2016, Activision Blizzard purchased King for a staggering $5.9 billion. King was one of the industry leaders then; therefore, the acquisition was considered a wise strategic move to improve Activision Blizzard’s mobile gaming selection.

Activision, thanks to the strategic purchase of King, Blizzard has been able to increase its presence in the mobile gaming sector. The company has thus benefited from the growing consumer interest in mobile gaming. For its part, Microsoft wants to continue using the same approach.

The talent pool is responsible for driving the success of games such as Call of Duty: Mobile; it is also at Microsoft’s disposal with the acquisition of Activision. Moreover, the Activision purchase goes beyond the debate surrounding the launch of Call of Duty for PlayStation.

Development of high-quality titles for all platforms

According to Phil, this acquisition goes further, and Microsoft is focusing on developing high-caliber games that anyone can play on all platforms. In support of this assertion, he cited the agreement with Activision as proof that there will be no platform exclusivity for Call of Duty. They will not have any system-specific material and will be accessible on the same day on all platforms.

In contrast, Call of Duty players on PlayStation already has access to exclusive material and early access to the game’s beta and other features. Spencer called Hogwarts Legacy’s exclusive material, in which one mission is exclusively accessible to PlayStation users, unfair to players and contrary to the values of inclusivity.

Regardless of which platform they prefer, he believes all gamers should have an equal opportunity to enjoy a game.

Regulators are still deciding whether to approve the transaction. If approved, Microsoft will pay $68.7 billion to acquire Activision Blizzard.
