After the arrival of the Season 4 reload to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, Activision has surprised the COD community, but not in the way we all expected.

While it is true that the season update brought a lot of new content to the game, Activision also reactivated or “fixed” the classic Call of Duty games. As a result, those older titles such as MW3, Black Ops, Black Ops 2, and many more are now fully playable.

Everything seems to indicate that this decision comes after the announcement that Microsoft got the green light to finalize the purchase of Activision. However, no one has made any official statement regarding the “fix” of these classics.

Old COD servers are active again

It’s no secret that the old COD servers have always enabled the community to enjoy the multiplayer mode on consoles and PCs. As a result, any player who has these video games on either platform could play both the story mode and the online multiplayer modes.

However, the matchmaking, i.e., the game search system, was completely broken, and, in many cases, players spent up to 1 hour waiting to get a match. After it was confirmed that Microsoft could purchase Activision Blizzard, the surprise for many is that the servers of the classic COD games are working again. Also, it’s worth mentioning that matchmaking is working perfectly.

CharlieIntel on Twitter said, “In some positive news, the older Call of Duty games are working on Xbox 360 again, and players are reporting active lobbies and matchmaking filling up lobbies quite quickly again.”

With the arrival of new titles, Activision gradually forgot all those classics that still maintain a large fan base. As a result, it was extremely difficult to get games in both MW3 and any of the Black Ops sagas. However, it seems that Activision took the trouble to solve all these problems, and now, everything works as it used to; that is to say, you can find games in seconds or a few minutes. In addition, it is also worth noting that Activision offers these classic titles on different platforms, so it is great news for all fans.

Classic COD Renaissance

However, what is most surprising is this update’s receptivity to classic COD games in the community. According to different figures, Black Ops accumulated up to 100,000 concurrent players after the server update. On the other hand, it was also reported that MW3 gathered more than 60,000 players. As a result, the old COD games are currently more popular than Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, the last two installments that have undoubtedly given a lot to talk about (negatively speaking).

With all this currently going on, all COD titles may arrive on Xbox Game Pass by 2025. Let’s remember that, in that year, Activision finalizes its agreement with Sony regarding its COD saga.

Likewise, everything seems to indicate that the COD saga is reviving thanks to all the “fixes” that Activision is making, and everything seems to indicate that its focus is shifting back to multiplayer instead of focusing on Battle Royale.
