A Suprise return: Rekkles will reportedly replace Upset in Fnatic

Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, a prominent European AD Carry who left Fnatic two years ago, is reportedly planning to rejoin Fnatic for the 2023 LEC season.

While earlier reports indicated that he was considering switching to a support role for the upcoming season, most recent claims from Brieuc “Wooloo” Seeger indicate that Rekkles will be joining Fnatic as their AD Carry in the LEC roster. Rekkles first joined Fnatic in 2014 but he soon left the organization and spent more than six months with Elements and Alliance. However, after only a brief absence from the team, the 26-year-old rejoined Fnatic in 2015 and remained with them for the following five years until joining G2 Esports in November 2020.

The reports come after Rekkles revealed earlier this month during a live stream that he was in a dispute with G2. He said he was only being paid a small part of his salary due to a clause in his agreement with G2 that said if he was benched, he would only receive six percent of his salary. Rekkles further alleged that the transfer fee on his contract with G2 was too also high and the organization didn’t reduce the transfer fee until the Karmine Corp showed interest in acquiring him in the offseason of 2021. The 26-year-old player was released from G2’s contract by Karmine Corp for an alleged transfer fee of €1.5 million.

However, The French organization placed its own buyout fee on Rekkles’ contract, leaving him in the same situation as before. The teams that are interested in the Swedish ADC will have to purchase him from his contract with the Karmine Corp. as his deal with the French organization is anticipated to expire the following year. However, as the financial resources of Fnatic allow them to take a bet on Rekkles and buy him out of his contract, the Swedish superstar will reportedly rejoin the European organization once again for his return to the LEC in 2023.

Upset will be teamless for the first time since 2016

As Fnatic plans to bring the old gun back to work, its current ADC Elias “Upset” Lipp has announced that he won’t have a squad in the 2023 LEC season. Upset will be without a house for the first time since he began his career in 2016. The 22-year-old was a major component of Fnatic’s game plan and a notable player for the team throughout the year with strong laning figures and exceptional fragging capability.

According to League stats aggregator Oracle’s Elixir, Upset had the fourth-most kills in the league during the 2022 Summer Split and accounted for 34.8 percent of his team’s overall kills. Since none of the elite teams at the LEC have a seat open in the ADC position, there is a very strong probability that Upset will be forced to go to North America and try to get a spot in an LCS team.
