If you’re sick and tired of those who rage quit in Dragon Ball FighterZ (and other competitive games for that matter), there’s a reason to celebrate. Arc System Works has just announced a slew of changes accompanying the latest patch, and they aim to punish those who decide to disconnect during online matches.

Going forward, those who decide to “deliberately disconnect” during an online match will be restricted from competing online for an entire week. This is quite a long period of time, and it should definitely linger in the minds of those competing. While restricted, players will still be able to play the game offline. If, however, a player is repeatedly disconnecting, they stand a chance of being permanently banned. Arc System didn’t mention how many disconnects need to happen for such a severe punishment to be handed out, however.

Overall, this is absolutely huge for the game and its online community. Some will argue that’s a bit overdue, but better late than never. Rage quitters are pretty much an everyday occurrence in most esports. Still, in FighterZ it’s an especially prominent issue. So prominent, in fact, that Arc had to go all-out when it comes to punishment. Banning someone out permanently is pretty much the last resort, and developers mostly shy away from such a severe option. Everyone paid for the game, after all, and banning them for life — be it justified or not — is not something that can be done on a whim.

Still, repeat offenders absolutely need to be punished for their actions. There’s no excuse, really, and we’re glad to see Arc System came to such an important decision. This will go a long way in ensuring a more balanced online ladder, one with a lot more competitive integrity and fair play.

Is This the Way to Go?

A lifetime ban is, for all intents and purposes, the highest form of punishment a developer can give out. But rage quitters are just a part of the problem. In FighterZ, if you’re en route to a online win and your opponent disconnects, you won’t be awarded with the win. That, frankly, makes no sense whatsoever. After all, what does the winning player care if their opponent disconnects before being dealt the finishing blow?

Many fans and players clamored for change, but no one necessarily wanted the leavers to get punished. Why would they, after all? Just award the winner what he’s due. It’s that simple. In that regard, this most recent development isn’t all that logical. Still, it’s better than nothing, and rage quitting will now probably become a thing of the past, with such severe punishment looming over the head of the losing player.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently one of the most popular FGC titles on the market, and it’s only going to get better with a steady influx of new DLC characters. Either way, the outlook is bright for Arc System Works’ 2.5D brawler.
