What seemed to be a joke or just rumors is now fully confirmed. Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker, one of the best VALORANT players in the world, joins the Challengers team of content creator Disguised Toast.
There is no doubt that this move is truly surprising, considering yay’s name in the VALORANT competitive scene. However, with all the VCT teams’ squads full, it was highly unlikely that yay could find a new home soon. On the other hand, this is also a way for the 24-year-old American player to stay active until the next VCT signing window.
Disguised Toast announces the signing of yay
In the last few hours, Disguised Toast, via their official VALORANT team account, announced the signing of Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker to their Challenger lineup.

The VALORANT worldwide star joins Disguised’s main lineup to fill the spot left by Drake “Exalt” Branly, who left the team midway through Split 1. However, Chris “riku” Piasecki was filling in for the remainder of the Split.
Toast announced yay just before an exhibition match called Pro vs. Noobs was played. In this match, yay and Tarik “tarik” Celik would face a team of streamers to entertain the fans.
Tarik and the newest member of DSG takes on 5 streamers in a Pros vs Noobs Valorant showdown.

yay’s signing wasn’t a joke
Last April 1, Toast posted a Tweet where he joked about yay’s signing for his VALORANT team. In this Tweet, Toast posted that yay was the only player in the squad and that he would play by himself against the opposing teams.
Welcome, DSG @yay.
However, in order to afford him – we had to drop our original roster. DSG games will just be Yay by himself against the enemy team. pic.twitter.com/SwLVKo9dYg

However, the fact that the lineups of the VCT teams were completely locked opened yay’s path to the Challengers League. This was a no-brainer on his part to stay active on the scene and be able to look for better options for next season.
Yay, and his departure from Cloud9
After Cloud9’s failure in the VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023, the organization decided to release the best player in the world in 2022, yay. According to the team’s official statement, yay’s departure was due to “role issues” in the team’s lineup.

As we mentioned, before joining Cloud9 for the 2023 season, yay was considered one of the best players in the world. Playing for OpTic Gaming, yay annihilated all his opponents playing with Chamber and Jett, helping OpTic take the victory in VCT Masters Reykjavik and reach second place in VALORANT Champions 2022.
Yay’s mission within the Disguised lineup seems somewhat complicated, as Disguised finished in eighth place in the VCL NA. Thanks to that, the team qualified for the Mid-Season Face Off but did not perform as expected and finished in last place.
