ZETA DIVISION and DetonatioN FocusMe will represent Japan at the VCT LOCK//IN. But what are their chances in the tournament? To answer that, we took a closer look at the recent performances of these teams.
A total of 32 teams from all over the world will take part in this year’s VCT LOCK//IN event. Among them are two Japanese teams that have been accepted into the VCT partnership program and participate in the VCT Pacific League.
ZETA DIVISION aims high
ZETA DIVISION is a well-known VALORANT organization in Japan. The organization formerly known as JUPITER showed what they’re made of for the first time three years ago at First Strike Japan. This year, they have competed in and won several Japanese events. In addition, ZETA has been one of the two teams that have dominated both VCT events and international appearances.
After a rather weak 2021 season, ZETA made some lineup changes towards the end of the year to come back stronger the following year. Back then, the lineup consisted of Tenta “ten” Asai, Kouji “Laz” Ushida, Maruoka “crow” Tomoaki, Yuma “Dep” Hisamoto, and Shota “SugarZ3ro” Watanabe.

ZETA causes a sensation
Last year’s VCT season saw a much stronger ZETA DIVISION play. They managed to qualify for the VCT 2022 Stage 1 Masters in Reykjavik and put on a run nobody expected, beating opponents like Liquid and Fnatic in the lower round of the playoffs. OpTic Gaming eventually defeated the Japanese team in the lower bracket finals and won the event. Still, ZETA’s run at the event was the biggest talking point of the tournament. ZETA was also part of the VALORANT Champions 2022, but their run there was ultimately stopped by LOUD.
To solidify the lineup ahead of this year’s VCT season, the organization has signed a sixth man in Ryo “barce” Takebayashi. The player was formerly part of DetonatioN FocusMe.
This is how it looks at DetonatioN FocusMe
DetonatioN FocusMe has revised its line-up for the VCT 2023 season. In fact, the team has a completely new line-up for the year and signed the entire team on the same day, with each player coming from a different Asian team.

Last October, DetonatioN announced the addition of five new players, including Park “Seoldam” Sang-min, Yoshitaka “Anthem” Enomoto, Oshiro “Reita” Ryu, Shogo “takej” Takemori, and Tomoki “xnfri” Moriya. Also, Seo “Suggest” Jae-young was promoted from the second team, DetonatioN White.
DetonatioN still has a lot to prove as far as achievements in VALORANT go. The team pales in comparison to teams like ZETA DIVISION, despite only entering the VALORANT scene in mid-2020. Still, with such talent from the region, the team has a solid foundation. DetonatioN FocusMe will meet Giants Gaming on the opening day of VCT LOCK IN Brazil.
