Tundra Esports risk an early elimination from Riyadh Masters

The group stage of Riyadh Masters 2023 is about to end. Each team has only one match left to play. But so far, things haven’t gone according to plan for Tundra Esports, as well as other participants.

Group B has been dominated by BetBoom Team and other competitors, whose scores range from 7-5 to 10-2. Meanwhile, Tundra’s score is 3-9. Without a victory in the last match of the group stage, Tundra’s run will end prematurely.

Luckily for Wu “Sneyking” Jingjun and his crew, the opponent will be Team Secret. This means that a victory is perfectly achievable. The only condition is that Tundra need to play their usual game, which hasn’t happened so far.

Nobody understands how a team that finished Tour 3 in 1^st place with a perfect record in the world’s toughest region (WEU) and then obtained the 3^rd place at the Bali Major, is now struggling to survive the group stage.

Perhaps Tundra’s players haven’t been able to adapt to the extreme heat that exists in Saudi Arabia at this time of the year. Or perhaps they’re struggling to win because of different reasons. But one thing is certain: in their first 6 matches, Tundra haven’t obtained a single victory. They got 3 draws and 3 defeats.

Tundra’s match against Secret

Tundra will need to beat Clement “Puppey” Ivanov’s team and it’s not going to be easy. Up until this point, Secret have been the only team that managed to beat BetBoom at this event. This guarantees that Puppey is a strategic genius. He essentially defeated a roster that’s twice as talented as his own with nothing but clever tactics.

Tundra could still win against Secret but it’s going to be difficult. The two teams met at The International 2022, as well as in Tour 3 of DPC 2023. And Secret got obliterated in each case. Let’s not forget that Tundra haven’t changed their roster in the last year, while Secret used to be much stronger than they are today.

However, Tundra’s strength is now in question and Secret did win some important matches at Riyadh Masters 2023. This makes matters a lot more complicated.

One point against Secret might not be enough because TSM and Shopify Rebellion, who both have 4 points at the moment, are likely to get one more point in their final match of the group stage.
