The CS2 era is beginning, and tournament organizers want to provide high-level events to start this new adventure in Valve’s shooter on the right foot. The Thunderpick World Championship 2023 is one of these great events that we will have to welcome Counter-Strike 2.

Last October 11, Thunderpick announced the teams invited to the tournament, which join those who qualified through various Series worldwide. In addition, it is worth noting that 16 teams will be fighting for the lion’s share of the $500,000 prize pool.

While some Tier 2 tournaments are already being played in CS2, this will be the second of the highest competitive level to be made in the new title. Valve officially launched CS2 last September 27, but many bugs have been reported. However, the developers are working tirelessly to fix and release daily updates so that the game is completely ready.

Thunderpick World Championship – Details

As mentioned, 16 top teams will be taking part in this tournament that will have a prize pool of $500,000.

In addition to the 8 that qualified through different Series worldwide, the organizers announced last October 11 that the 8 teams directly invited to the tournament.

Similarly, below, we will show you the teams participating in the Thunderpick WC 2023:

  • Cloud9
  • FaZe Clan
  • Fnatic
  • FURIA Esports
  • Heroic
  • Team Liquid
  • NiP
  • pro
  • MOUZ
  • BIG
  • Team Spirit
  • SAW
  • Wildcard Gaming
  • M80
  • Complexity
  • Nouns Esports

As we can see, we will have an action-packed tournament with the best CS2 teams in the world competing for a juicy prize pool. In addition, it is also worth mentioning that the Thunderpick WC 2023 will be played from October 27 to November 5, 2023 and will be played in a fully online format.

Format

The 16 teams participating in this tournament will be grouped into 4 groups of 4 teams each. In addition, the Group Fas will be played in the popular GLS format, with all matches best of 3 (BO3). Finally, the TOP 2 of each group will seal their ticket to the tournament playoffs. As a result, we will have a playoff of 8 teams.

Then, in the Playoffs Phase, the teams face each other in a Single-Elimination format, and, as in the Group Phase, all matches are played best of three (BO3).

We are waiting to see what happens with IEM Sydney in the coming days, as for many professionals, CS2 is not yet “ready” to compete. However, just as we began our era in CS:GO, so, maybe sooner rather than later, Valve will solve all the drawbacks.
