The one-million-dollar Dota 2 tournament has ended its first phase, with four of the twelve teams sent home already. However, some tiebreakers must be played before we know the Playoff matchups.

Group A Results

Though it’s old news, Virtus.Pro and Team Aurora had already been eliminated on Day 4, and LGD Gaming, Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid, and Team Falcons would all make it to the Playoffs stage. These predetermined results meant the final day of matches had no meaning – or so we thought.

In the BetBoom DACHA Dubai format, the Group Stage results do not determine whether a team would begin their Playoffs run from the Upper or Lower Bracket as most Dota events do. In this case, all four survivors of the Group Stage would be sent to the Upper Bracket.

However, the Group A participants are placed in quite a predicament, as the top four teams all ended with a 6-4 record, meaning there is a four-way tie. Though every team is guaranteed to play in the Upper Bracket, the issue arises on the Playoff seedings and matchups. Therefore, a four-way tiebreaker would have to be played.

Seeding Tiebreakers

Since the schedule and number of teams would not allow for Best of 3 or even Best of 1 tiebreakers, the four teams will decide their fates through a 1v1 Mid bracket using Shadow Fiend.

The four Mid Laners from each team have been placed in a bracket where they will play Best of 1 Shadow Fiend Mid matches. The placement of the players will decide the matchups in the Playoffs.

Group B Results

Thankfully, Group B didn’t end as complicated as it did for Group A. Unfortunately, we bid farewell to Nouns and OG, who had crushing defeats on the final day of Groups.

Coming into Day 5, the two teams had a record of 2-6, while the BetBoom Team had a 4-4 record, sitting in fourth place. Though the chances were slim, OG or Nouns still had a chance to survive in the tournament had they won their final series 2-0, and the BetBoom Team lost their match 0-2 to force a tiebreaker.

One of the criteria did end up happening, as the BetBoom Team suffered a 0-2 loss against Azure Ray. Unfortunately, OG and Nouns took one map off Team Spirit and Xtreme Gaming, respectively, but could not convert the 2-0. This result meant the BetBoom Team clinched their Playoffs spot.

Playoffs Schedule And Bracket

Since we’re waiting on the tiebreakers between the Group A teams, the first-round Playoffs bracket matchups have not been confirmed yet. The tiebreakers will happen on the 9th of February, so we’ll have the results by then and update you guys immediately.

Here’s what an incomplete version of the Playoffs bracket looks like:

Tiebreakers aside, the tournament will resume on the 11th of February, so there will be a two-day gap between the conclusion of the Group Stage and the main event.
