SumaiL’s new team, Just Error, managed to survive the Group Stage of EPIC League Division 1 by winning the tiebreaker against mudgolems and Alliance. All three teams had finished the Group Stage with 2 wins and 7 losses, which is not a good score at all.

Group Stage Results

The Group Stage of EPIC League Division 1 had some totally weird results, with two CIS teams leading the pack in a tournament that brought together the best teams in Europe and CIS. Ironically, the best European team so far, Vikin.gg, is a dark horse and was not supposed to climb so high. But after Team Secret, Team Nigma, and OG failed to perform at the desired level, someone had to step in to defend Europe’s honor.

The complete results were the following:

  • 1st place: Virtus.pro: 7 W – 2 L
  • 2nd place: Vikin.gg: 6 W – 3 L
  • 3rd place: Natus Vincere: 6 W – 3 L
  • 4th place: OG: 5 W – 4 L
  • 5th place: Team Liquid: 5 W – 4 L
  • 6th place: Team Nigma: 5 W – 4 L
  • 7th place: Team Secret: 5 W – 4 L
  • 8th place: Just Error: 2 W – 7 L
  • 9th place: Alliance: 2 W – 7 L
  • 10th place: mudgolems: 2 W – 7 L

As you can see, there will be a lot of tiebreaker matches and some of them have already been played. In their first match of the 8th place tiebreaker, Just Error won in less than 30 minutes against mudgolems thanks to a Monkey King + Medusa strategy. However, it should be noted that FATA’s team played with a stand-in in this match.

Just Error’s second tiebreaker match was played against Alliance. They used a totally different strategy this time, with Morphling, Puck and a Nature’s Prophet, a type of combination that we don’t see very often in the current meta. Nevertheless, it worked. But I suspect it did mainly because of Alliance’s weird combo: Viper + Ember + Spectre + Storm. I have no idea how they expected to make that farm-intensive line-up work when there is nobody to make space. Their IO support was always glued to someone and the entire team looked like they just wanted to farm.

4th Place Tiebreaker

The 4th place tiebreaker matches are underway and based on what happened during the Group Stage, I think it’s safe to say that OG and Secret are the big favorites. In particular, I think Secret will be the winner, although we shouldn’t discard OG. After all, Ceb and his squad defeated Puppey in the round-robin. The only problem is that they also lost against Liquid and Nigma, the other two competitors they’ll have to face.
