G2 Esports and MOUZ will face each other in the last quarterfinal of PGL Major Copenhagen. Both of these teams are strong, but MOUZ are in the best shape we’ve seen them in a long time.

The match is scheduled to take place on March 29 and will start at 20:00 CET.

G2 Esports

In 2024, G2 Esports finished 5th – 6th at BLAST Premier: Spring Groups and IEM Katowice. Then they qualified for PGL Major Copenhagen with a perfect record, defeating Into The Breach, Eternal Fire, and FaZe Clan in the first European Qualifier.

This team is currently ranked 5th globally and has two players who finished 2023 in the top 5 at the individual level. NiKo was ranked 2nd while m0NESY was ranked 4th in the world.

Everything about G2 suggests that they are capable of winning S-tier trophies in 2024. The only problem is that their stage 2 performance at this tournament looked a bit shaky. The three teams they defeated were The MongolZ, ECSTATIC, and Virtus.pro. None of them qualified for the playoffs.

The two teams who defeated them, Natus Vincere and Cloud9, are in the playoffs. That’s a bad sign but then again, it’s one thing to play a best-of-one and it’s another thing to play a best-of-three.

G2’s map pool is quite diverse and the roster is highly skilled on six of the seven maps. They don’t play Mirage. Other than that, they can play anything at a high level. The team’s favorite map seems to be Nuke, although they’ve had quite a few battles on Anubis and Inferno as well.

MOUZ

MOUZ have a truly international roster. Six people from six different countries. And yet, despite this diversity, they seem to communicate well with each other and the results so far have been fantastic.

MOUZ finished IEM Katowice in 3rd – 4th place and qualified for PGL Major Copenhagen with a perfect record after a victory against Team Spirit. This makes them the only team who defeated Spirit in the last two months.

At the Copenhagen Major, MOUZ encountered ECSTATIC (13 – 11), Eternal Fire (13 – 11), and Complexity (2 – 0). The first two matches were very difficult for them. In the third, they won with ease. Those first two matches clearly indicated that they have weaknesses in their game. But will G2 be able to exploit those weaknesses? It remains to be seen.

The favorite team in this match, until proven contrary, remains MOUZ.
