Former Overwatch pro, Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok is reportedly set to join South Korean organization T1’s Valorant roster for the upcoming VCT 2023.

T1 appears poised to make an impact in VCT 2023, as speculation swirls all over the internet about the former Overwatch pro joining the organization. Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok, who is allegedly switching from Overwatch to Valorant, plans to join T1 for the 2023 VCT APAC league. The South Korean player, who is currently with Philadelphia Fusion, is well known for his overpowering performances in the Overwatch League.

He joined the Philadelphia Fusion at the start of the 2017 season and has been a member of the squad ever since. Carpe has dominated competitive play in Overwatch with Damage Heroes like Cassidy and Widowmaker, and it is anticipated that he will continue to play a flex or duelist position in Valorant for T1. Given that both teams are controlled by Comcast Spectacor and SK Telecom, Carpe’s transition from Philadelphia Fusion to T1 is likely to be seamless.

T1 appears set for the 2023 VCT

T1 revealed in an official video earlier this month that it had added five players to its VCT 2023 lineup. The Riot VCT rulebook, however, dictates that the group must have six players on the roster before the 2023 season begins. The addition of Carpe to the Valorant team will give T1 a full roster of five players and a substitute to start the 2023 VCT season. If the rumors are true and Carpe manages to land a slot on the starting lineup, the majority of T1’s squad will be comprised of former Overwatch League players. The South Korean player will be a part of T1’s stellar roster which also includes two other former Overwatch superstars. Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo and Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom made the switch to Valorant in 2020, after playing for the Florida Mayhem and Boston Uprising respectively.

If the reports are accurate, T1’s Valorant roster will consist of:

  • Son “xeta” Seon-ho
  • Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom
  • Joseph “Ban” Seungmin Oh
  • Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo
  • Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok
  • Kim “BeomJun” Beom-jun

T1 and Carpe did not respond to the claims yet, and it is also unknown if Carpe will take part in the Philadelphia Fusion’s match against the London Spitfire on October 30 in the 2022 Overwatch League playoffs. On the other side, T1’s newly assembled team will debut in the VCT 2023 opening event, which is set for February 2023. All thirty of the partnered teams will compete in the competition, which will be held as a LAN event in So Paulo, Brazil.
