OG are trying to win Pinnacle Cup V (CS:GO)

OG have struggled all season in CS:GO and ended up losing some of their best players. This team is clearly not going up in the global rankings. They used to be in the top 10, but now they’re not even in the top 20. This means that they need to compete in everything they can to stay afloat, even B-tier tournaments.

Right now, OG is playing in Pinnacle Cup V, a $50.000 event that features strong teams like Apeks, Astralis, and Bad News Eagles. This makes OG’s mission much harder than it should be. The Western Europeans will play against los kogutos later today, in the Swiss System format used by the organizer for the second stage of the competition.

OG’s chances

OG’s score is currently 2 W – 1 L, so they still have two more lives left. Hopefully for them, they’ll win this next match and qualify for the playoffs. But their odds of succeeding are lower than they appear to be.

Los kogutos are not exactly an easy opponent. Apart from the fact that they defeated Team 7AM and FTW Esports in the play-in stage, they also defeated Eternal Fire and Team Spirit in the group stage. Both of these teams are relatively strong, which puts OG in a bad position.

But even if they do qualify, the directly invited teams will give them an even harder time in the playoffs. Apeks, Astralis, Bad News Eagles, and an undisclosed 4^th team will start the competition in this final phase of Pinnacle Cup V. Without this privilege, they would have likely refused to compete in the tournament.

It’s almost an insult to a tier 1 team to be invited to a B-tier event and be asked to prove its worth in 3-5 matches where the opponent is little-known or even completely unknown.

Overall, OG has good chances of qualifying for the playoffs but poor chances of surviving the quarterfinals. They will likely survive round 1. But in the quarterfinals, they will need to play against one of the best teams in the world. And based on how they’ve performed lately, it’s doubtful that they can win such a best-of-three.

This current OG roster, which was created to a large extent at the end of June, still needs to practice and find a way to tackle difficult opponents. Nemanja “nexa” Isakovic is probably trying his best as the team’s IGL, but he’ll need to do a little better.
