NYSL won’t be hosting a CDL Major in 2023

The current winners of the first Major of the 2023 season, New York Subliners, have announced that, due to some circumstances, they will not be able to host Major IV in 2023.

The Call of Duty League team, New York Subliners, which the NYXL organization operates, were in charge of hosting the Major Four, which will take place April 13-16, 2023, in LAN format.

The organization shared a Tweet where they pointed out that they will not be able to host the Major Four as scheduled but did not expand on the “circumstances” they claimed in the statement.

On the other hand, there are strong rumors about the possible causes of this decision by the Major I champion team.

There is talk that the team’s headquarters, the King’s Theatre located in New York City, is tiny to host a Call of Duty League Challenger tournament, so they can’t organize a Major I tournament.

NYXL and Oxygen Esports failed to reach an agreement

As we mentioned, the team’s official venue, the King’s Theatre, is too small to host two tournaments simultaneously, the CDL and Call of Duty Challengers Open.

The New York Subiners solved this problem last season after a successful partnership with Oxygen Esports, the organization in charge of the Boston Breach team.

This agreement allowed them to use the Helix Esports facility in Foxborough, Massachusetts, to host the Challengers Open.

But for 2023, this will not be possible, as NYXL and Oxygen Esports have not been able to reach an agreement to use Helix Esports again, so the Subliners have had to cede the organization of the event.

Disappointing news

This news has not gone down well with fans, players, and even less so with the organization. Everyone expected to have an extraordinary event in New York.

On the players’ side, this may have taken them completely by surprise. According to rumors, the lineup of the team that won the first CDL Major of the 2023 season did not know that the organization was going to give up the event that was supposed to be at home until they were in Raleigh.

Remember that the atmosphere generated by the New York fans in the Major organized last year was extraordinary, especially in the grand finale.

No other location has been announced yet

Some personalities within the esports world, specifically CDL, expressed that it is very likely that the Florida Mutineers will host the CDL Major Four in 2023, but there is nothing official about it.

Remember that the CDL can also organize the tournaments without requiring another team to do so. For example, remember that the CDL arranged the Major I played a few days ago.
