Action in the Land of Dawn has become the world’s most-watched esports title in March, according to the March tournament report from global esports statistics provider Esports Charts.

The 13th season of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League or MPL in Indonesia has largely become the world’s most-watched esport in March, with the March 30 battle between Alter Ego and RRQ Hoshi garnering a staggering 1.86 million peak viewers.

“Atop the pile is the discipline’s crown jewel when it comes to its regional events, the MPL Indonesia Season 13, which continued to make news as the year’s most popular esports tournament so far. In fact, it has improved on the initial figure (topping at 1.8M PV during the Week 4 clash between Alter Ego and RRQ Hoshi) to reiterate how big a market Indonesia remains for the game and its esports segment,” Esports Charts noted in its report.

Adding further to this increase in viewership is the fact that the top 2 teams from this region will represent Indonesia in MLBB esports’ biggest-ever event, the 2024 Mid-Season Cup, which will be held alongside the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia. This tournament carries a US$3 million prize pool – but the bigger prize is to try and dethrone the Philippines as the world’s best MLBB region.

“Readers can expect lots more action, meaning a lot more viewers showing up in latter stages,” Esports Charts noted.

Coming in at a close second in Esports Charts’ most-watched list for March 2024 is the historic PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, where Ukrainian esports team Natus Vincere was crowned the inaugural CS2 Major champions after a thrilling match against FaZe Clan.

This historic broadcast drew just a few thousand short of MPL Indonesia S13’s viewership, at around 1.85 million peak viewers. This is also the most-viewed FPS esport event of the month.

Esports Charts noted that this historic tournament created several records to allay any fears of decline ever since CS2 became the main competitive Counter-Strike title worldwide.

“This game hit 1.8M PV, making it the third most popular event ever in Counter-Strike,” Esports Charts also noted.

This tournament is also the most-viewed English esports tournament in the world in March, with over 1 million peak viewers alone for the NAVI vs FaZe Clan match.

Coming in third globally is another historic tournament – this time for global competitive Valorant. The epic finale of VCT 2024 Masters Madrid reached 1.68 million views for the clash between East and West, which saw Sentinels from the Americas defeat Gen.G from the Pacific in a moment that will live in history for Valorant fans worldwide.

“With the Grand Final between Sentinels and Gen.G going all the way to the fifth map, the former’s triumph — its first international LAN win in almost three years — played a crucial role. With new regions and teams emerging to challenge the established elite, there could be another golden age for Valorant coming up, which is only good news for fans of one of the most well-run esports segments globally,” Esports Charts noted in its March report.

Next up in the list is the Week 7 clash in the League of Legends Championship Korea or LCK Spring 2024 tourney which saw T1 and Gen.G’s match hit over 1.04 million peak views.

“With the ongoing Playoffs ending on April 7, there is every chance readers see this competition appear in the April rankings,” Esports Charts noted. This tournament is also the most-watched among Korean-language viewers, carrying close to 495,000 peak views.

Rounding out the top five is the VCT 2024 Americas Kickoff which kick-started Sentinels’ resurgence in the global competitive Valorant scene. With their Kickoff Grand Final match against LOUD scoring to be a big hit among viewers, their over 823,000 peak views set a record for the most-watched regional event ever in global competitive Valorant.
