M80 beats Evil Geniuses to qualify for ESL Challenger Atlanta

The NA Qualifiers for the ESL Challenger Atlanta 2023 are history, and we have M80 getting an excellent 2-0 win over Evil Geniuses to qualify directly for the main event.

M80 annihilates Evil Geniuses 2-0

We all expected a much closer series and, above all, tilted in favor of Evil Geniuses, as they have players with much more experience in this type of finals. However, a spectacular collective work by M80 led them to an extraordinary 2-0 victory, thus sealed their ticket to the main event in Atlanta in mid-December.

For EG, only Timothy “autimatic” Ta rose to the occasion. He was the only player on the team to finish the series with a rating over 1.00 (1.18) and an ADR over 70 (87.5).

The series between M80 and Evil Geniuses took place in Vertigo and Ancient.

Vertigo

It all started on Vertigo, M80’s map pick, where slaxz- and Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa displayed their full potential to lead their team to victory.

In the first half, M80 showed a mind-blowing offense that led them to an excellent 10-2 advantage in their T Side. We all know how complicated it is to come back in CS2, as the MR12 format does not allow many of these feats, so EG had it complicated.

Finally, at the change of sides, after 9 rounds played (3-6 favorable to EG), M80 managed to seal their victory by 13-8 and thus take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Ancient

Then, on the second map, Ancient, things started differently, as Evil Geniuses wanted to wake up to put M80 in trouble and try to even the series 1-1. In the first half, M80’s CT Side was not as solid as they expected, but they still managed to get a narrow 7-5 partial victory.

However, M80’s best came at the change of sides, as, in their T Side, they managed to win 6 out of 7 rounds for a resounding 13-6 victory. Thanks to this victory, M80 secured their spot for the ESL Challenger Atlanta and will fight for the ESL Pro League S19 spot.
