Luminosity Gaming is ending its VALORANT journey for the foreseeable future. The organization has announced its exit from competitive VALORANT on June 2, stating that the now-former Luminosity roster will continue playing under the Luminosity banner throughout the remainder of VALORANT Champions Tour NA Stage 2.

Luminosity Gaming did not provide a reason for its exit from VALORANT, however, according to its official announcement, the Canadian organization might eventually return to the scene.

The official announcement by Luminosity Gaming reads:

“Luminosity remains passionate about esports and we aim to continue to compete for championships in every esport that we participate in. Exiting VALORANT is not an easy decision for us, we look forward to Riot’s upcoming structure for 2023 and we do not rule out the opportunity to participate in VALORANT esports again down the road.”

Looking for new home

The now-former Luminosity line-up consists of Kaleb “moose” Jayne, Will “dazzLe” Loafman, Tanner “TiGG” Spanu, Adam “mada” Pampuch, Brandon Michael “bdog” Sanders and the team’s Head Coach Jared “mac” Schneider. The organization stated that it will help the roster, which would like to stay together, find a new home. “Keeping our roster AND staff together is incredibly important to us, and vital to the long-term success of this team,” said moose and dazzLe on Twitter.

For now, the squad will compete as a restricted free-agent team, staying under the Luminosity Gaming banner until the ongoing VCT Stage 2 concludes. Luminosity is currently competing in the Group B of the North American VALORANT Champions Tour Stage 2 with a 2-1 score. If the team manages to advance to the double-elimination playoffs, they will have a chance to secure a spot in the VCT Masters 2 set to take place in July in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Luminosity Gaming joined VALORANT esports in August 2020 following the signing of the free-agent team MIXUP. Since then, the team saw multiple roster changes, having participated mainly in lower-tier events and without any greater successes.

VALORANT partnership system

Luminosity’s decision to exit VALORANT esports follows Riot Game’s briefing with VCT teams, which was held last week in order to address the league’s partnership system for 2023. According to a report by Dotesports, Riot’s VALORANT leagues in North America, Brazil and Latin America will feature eight to ten partner teams. Interested teams will be reportedly able to apply for partnership in the following months, with the direct invites to be sent out next year.
