In a surprising turn of events, Luminosity released their Apex Legends team on Friday, December 8, sparking rumors that the org may try to sign former NRG players Sweet and Nafen. This could lead to a competition with FaZe Clan, who are also rumored to be looking to sign Sweet to their team.

Over the course of the year, the team, also known as LG Chivas, achieved considerable success in the third season of the ALGS, qualifying for every LAN final. Despite their good performances this year, players Luis Enrique “Neazul” Ramos Suarez, Saul Ocampo “YanYa” Plascencia and Alexis “Jaguares” Martinez had to quit their team unexpectedly. They are now looking for a new organization to represent them. At the moment, it is still unclear what will happen for the players and which organization they will play for in the future.

This decision came quite suddenly and took many people, including the players, by surprise.

Community cannot explain Luminosity’s actions

The Apex community’s reaction to this news was mostly disbelief.
NiceWigg, a former professional player commented that Luminosity’s decision to let go of “some of the best players in the world” was “WILD”. He believes the decision is a mistake.Luminosity Gaming is also not entirely clear why they let the players go all of a sudden, especially since they were quite successful.

Luminosity’s decision raises questions about the support and accessibility of the Apex Legends competitive scene in Latin America, especially after EA’s removal of the South American Pro League.

Possible changes in the Apex scene

Meanwhile, Sweet and Nafen are available as free agents and are expected to be courted by many organizations. After NRG’s withdrawal from the Apex competition, the rumor mills are churning. FaZe Clan, fresh after parting ways with their entire Apex team, could also be interested in signing the two players.

On the other hand, Snip3down, a player freshly released from FaZe Clan, has formed a new team with BulletL from N8V Gaming and former member StayNaughtyy from Cloud9, which also currently has no sponsor.

Whatever happens to the former Luminosity lineup, the former NRG members or the departed FaZe Clan players, the Apex Legends off-season is clearly in full swing.

With the official launch of the Pro League just over a month away, there are sure to be plenty of twists and turns ahead, and players may well have found a new team by then.
