The LEC already has a king in its Summer Split 2023, and is none other than G2 Esports, a team that manages to lift the champions trophy for the second time this season. The organization that has achieved more championship titles throughout history in Europe gets a new championship trophy after defeating EXCEL Esports with a crushing 3-0.

Undoubtedly, we must give all the credit in the world to EXCEL Esports since it is a team that comes from being the worst team in the LEC in the first two splits of the season. However, in this Summer Split, they had a Cinderella run that they could not complete in the Grand Final against G2 Esports. Likewise, EXCEL must be completely satisfied with the performance of its lineup in this Summer Split.

The samurai displayed their full potential and proved to everyone in EMEA that they were the best team in the region. As a result, G2 Esports is the clear favorite to lift the champion trophy at the LEC Season Finals 2023 and, in addition, seal their ticket to Worlds 2023.

G2 Esports dominate the LEC Summer Split 2023

While this Summer Split was marked entirely by Cinderella races and a few surprises, G2 Esports never let go from the moment it took the lead on the regular season leaderboard. The Samurai had an impeccable 8-1 record in the regular season, making them the clear favorites to win this Split.

Then, in the Group Stage, G2 crushed KOI and Team BDS to qualify as Group A leaders for the next tournament stage. Finally, in the playoffs, the Samurai defeated EXCEL Esports in the Upper Bracket Final by 3-2, and then, in the Grand Final, they applied a spectacular clean sweep by 3-0 to be crowned champions.

On the other hand, as we mentioned, G2 Esports added its second title in this 2023 season by debuting the new three Split format with BO3 and BO5 matches, something that had never been seen before. In addition, it is also worth mentioning that Rasmus “Caps” Winther becomes the player with the most titles on the European continent, with nine.

G2 Esports gives an exhibition in the Grand Final against EXCEL

While it is true that, throughout the Split, there was more talk about the excellent level of EXCEL and Fnatic than the absolute dominance of G2 Esports. However, the Samurai spotlighted their full potential in the Grand Final match.

Undoubtedly, it was a true exhibition by G2, as they won the first game in 25:04 minutes. Then, in the second game, EXCEL offered much more resistance, but, finally, G2 Esports prevailed to take the victory.

Finally, in the third and last game of the series, G2, led by Martin “Yike” Sundelin, who was the MVP of the Grand Final, achieved a resounding victory in 23:54 minutes to be crowned champions of the LEC Summer Split 2023.

On the other hand, there is no doubt that EXCEL did nothing but applaud and acknowledge the great level of play of G2 Esports in this grand final. The British squad never had a chance to beat G2 in this series, so they had to settle for second place in the Split.

However, now they will have the opportunity to complete their Cinderella run in the LEC Season Finals 2023, getting one of the three slots for Worlds 2023.
