While the LEC Winter Split is ongoing, Riot Games has already announced the dates for the start of the next competition.

This weekend will end the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) Winter Split 2023. Starting today, Monday, February 20, the tournament will kick off with the best-of-five series between KOI and G2 Esports.

LEC Spring Split dates revealed

As mentioned, the LEC Winter Split is still underway. However, Riot has taken the trouble to publish the official dates for the start of the Spring Split. All this, with the aim that the teams prepare as best as possible, and we will have an extraordinary show. The start date that Riot has announced is next March 11, 2023, just two weeks after the Winter Grand Final match, played next Sunday, February 26.

The official LEC blog reads:

“The LEC has the best fans in the world (we’re not biased, we swear!). And we couldn’t be more grateful for your support throughout the Winter Split. It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back for Spring when our teams are set to take to the LEC Studio stage again.”

On the other hand, as revealed on the official LoL Esports blog, the regular spring phase will start on March 11 and culminate on March 27. Then, the playoffs start is scheduled for April 8. These will be extended until April 22, and the grand final will finally be played on April 23.

The format will remain the same as in the Winter Split.

Let’s remember that the format of the LEC has been wholly changed from what we have experienced in previous years. Right now, we have three completely different phases. In the first, all matches are played on a best-of-one basis, with the best teams advancing to the group phase. This is where the news begins, as all matches, as in the Winter Split, will be played in best-of-three.

Finally, the tournament’s final phase (which is currently being played in the Winter Split) is played in best-of-five matches. The teams crowned champions in the Winter and Spring Splits will earn direct tickets to the LEC finals and the MSI.

After these significant mid-season events, we will reach the Summer Split, which will also grant another place for the LEC finals. Those best placed in the points system will join the three clubs that win the respective Splits.

As we mentioned, the final phase of the Winter Split is currently being played. The teams still alive are KOI, G2 Esports, SK Gaming, and MAD Lions.
