Las Vegas Legion announces lineup for the CDL 2024

We are just a few weeks away from the official start of the next season of the Call of Duty League, and teams are finalizing their lineups to begin their preparations.

One of these teams is Las Vegas Legion, which recently announced its new lineup for the upcoming season. However, what caught the attention of this announcement is that they did it through an AI, which generated a lot of criticism in the community in general.

Las Vegas Legion announces its new roster for the 2024 CDL

Through a post on their Twitter/X account, Las Vegas Legion announced their new roster heading into the 2024 CDL in their brutal quest to improve their results.

As we note, the Las Vegas Legion roster consists of the following players:

  • Dillon “Attach” Price
  • Dylan “Nero” Koch
  • Evan “Purj
  • Eli “Standy” Bentz

Attach comes from playing for the last 3 years with the Minnesota RØKKR. Meanwhile, Nero was part of the Boston Breach squad until June 2023, when he left the team and played for Convoy Gaming, a team in the Challengers scene.

Purj will make his Call of Duty League debut after playing for Millennium 7 and OMiT in the Challengers scene, and finally, Standy is the only player from 2023 to repeat in the squad for 2024.

Criticism of the use of AI to announce the squad

While we were all waiting for the Las Vegas Legion to announce their lineup for the 2024 CDL, the community turned to criticize their subsequent method of using AI to recreate the players.

Undoubtedly, the team’s roster news was wholly left aside by how the AI was used to generate the players’ portraits. As we are used to in the CDL, all the teams used videos (some of them comical) or real images of the players to announce their respective lineups. However, Las Vegas Legion tried to “revolutionize” this idea, and, in addition to adopting the “simplest” way (with images), they used an AI image generator to do so.

Gursh, who manages FaZe Clan’s social media, shared his thoughts and strongly criticized by mentioning that there are many talented designers in the market. On the other hand, Tee, a graphic designer who previously worked at Legion, shared a post saying that an AI had “taken her job.”

Like these comments, we can still see many more of them in the organization’s responses to the announcement post. We even noted how other CDL franchises also made negative comments and linked the use of AI to the terrible performance the Legions have had in the CDL.

This lineup will have to be prepared somehow to try to reverse the Las Vegas Legion’s recent CDL season results.
