The fifth day of the LEC Summer Split 2023 is history, and we have KOI and Fnatic both took victories to give a blow to the table and make the competition much more interesting. On the other hand, we highlight that MAD Lions lost their undefeated against Fnatic, which means that all the teams already know what a defeat is in this tournament.

As a result, we now have a three-way tie for first place in the overall LEC Summer Split leaderboard between Fnatic, G2 Esports, and MAD Lions, all of whom have a 4-1 record. Team Heretics lost for the second time in a row and is in fourth place, while Astralis, EXCEL, KOI, and Team BDS follow with 2-3. Finally, we have Team Vitality and SK Gaming, who are at the bottom of the table with a 1-4 record.

Let’s see what happened on the fifth day of the LEC Summer Split 2023.

KOI catch their breath with a win in the Spanish derby against Team Heretics

The Marquees came into this match with an extremely big need to win, as their situation was complicated with only four games played. In addition, a win against Team Heretics in the Spanish derby would help them catch their breath for the rest of the Split.

However, as it happens in all classics, it doesn’t matter either team’s past or recent results. KOI and Team Heretics came out all guns blazing in this match to win. There is no doubt that we enjoyed a truly spectacular match, and either team could have taken the victory. However, Ibai Llanos’ squad came away with the win to put their record at 2-3 and give them some breathing room at this point in the season.

Fnatic rise against MAD Lions to climb to the top again

MAD Lions could not keep their undefeated on this fifth day of the LEC Summer Split 2023 and fell to a Fnatic that seems completely renewed and with their sights set on the championship. Remember that this is the last chance for the teams to score the necessary points to qualify for the next Worlds 2023.

The match between Fnatic and MAD Lions was balanced, tight, and all the synonyms we could find. However, the Spaniards of each team were protagonists, demonstrating once again that the level of play in this European country in LoL is getting higher and higher. On the part of Fnatic, we have Ivan “Razork” Martin, and Oscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz were in charge of crushing Javier “Elyoya” Prades’ MAD Lions to climb to the top of the overall leaderboard.

While the rest of the matches did not promise to be exciting, we found the opposite true. EXCEL won their second game against Team BDS and climbed out of the table’s ditch. Then, Astralis crushed an unrecognizable Team Vitality, who continue to show a really low level of play.

While the other interesting match was between SK Gaming and G2 Esports; SK Gaming guys played a spectacular match and dominated Summoner’s Rift for almost the entire game. However, thanks to action by Steven “Hans Sama” Liv with Kog’Maw, G2 pulled off an extraordinary comeback to put their record at 4-1 and climb to the top of the leaderboard alongside Fnatic and MAD Lions.
