In English, the tweet reads:
“Hello, this is Gen.G Esports. Today marks the end of the Overwatch Contenders team’s journey. We would like to express our gratitude to the team and all those who have been with us so far, and we will sincerely support the coaching staff and players for the new challenges they face in the future.“
Reason unknown
Gen.G had been a fixture of Korean Overwatch since 2018, quickly becoming one of the biggest names in the Contenders scene and during that time, numerous Gen.G players have gone on to play in the Overwatch League.
At this time, the reason behind disbanding the roster has not been revealed. However, fans were quick to share their sadness on social media, as the team was widely loved within the Korean and global Overwatch communities.
Gen.G have not revealed what will replace Gen.G Contenders as the Dynasty’s academy team. However, they may look to promote tiger nation into that role. Since 2021, tiger nation had served as the academy team for Gen.G contenders.
