Fluxo secure their third win at the CCT South America following their 2-1 Grand Final victory against Sharks Esports.

For first place, Fluxo gets 150 points in the regional Champion of Champions rankings and $11,000 in cash. At the first CCT South America tournament, they won the Grand Final against paiN and repeated this feat in the second edition against Paquetá.

The Brazilian team now sits at the top of the South American rankings with 450 points after winning the third consecutive edition of the tournament, which secured them one of the top three spots at the upcoming Studio LAN Finals.

Scheduling controversy

Adriano “WOOD7” Cerato and his team started their run through the $25,000 event in the playoffs and it was relatively straight through to the grand finals. They started by knocking out Paquetá and Isurus in two-map series before defeating FUSION 2-1 in the semifinals.

However, the matchup between Fluxo and Sharks was not without controversy. A scheduling conflict with the ESL Brazil Premier League, which offers a single spot for the ESL Pro League Season 17 Conference, forced Fluxo to reschedule the CCT South America Grand Final to Thursday.

In a Twitter thread ahead of the game, WOOD7 explained that CCT had threatened to strip Fluxo of the 300 league points they received for their previous two first-place finishes, as well as all prize money, should they refuse to play their finals series against Sharks. This ultimately led to Fluxo abandoning their ESL Brazil Premier League skirmish against ODDIK, reducing the team’s chances of a place in the ESL Pro League Season 17 Conference.

The Grand Final

The finale finally began on Dust2, the map chosen by Fluxo. Sharks struck first and prevented a late comeback attempt from Fluxo. They punished their opponents’ map choice with a 16-11 victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Fluxo tried to retaliate early in the second map, dismally punishing the opponent’s Vertigo pick. They were able to win the map 16-4 and force a decider on Mirage.

On the third map, Fluxo stayed in the driver’s seat, as Vinicius “vsm” Moreira and Lucas “Lucaozy” Neves combined 48 kills pushed the team towards 16-13 victory, giving the Brazilian squad a hat-trick at the CCT South America.

There is only one more CCT South America event left to play, with the playoffs set to begin on February 6. Teams that finish on the podium at the end of all four Online Cups will receive an invite to the as-yet-unannounced Studio Finals.
