DreamLeague S22 group stage 2 results

The second stage of DreamLeague S22 is over and some of the big favorites did not qualify for the playoffs.

In particular, Gaimin Gladiators and OG, two teams that have demonstrated their strength in recent months, were unable to secure enough victories and failed because of a single-point difference. Their record was 3 W – 4 L, while Team Spirit and Xtreme Gaming had 4 wins and 3 losses.

Meanwhile, BetBoom Team finished this stage with 5 victories and just 2 defeats. But the strongest team in the race is clearly Team Falcons, who won all 7 matches and only lost a single game. Their current understanding of the meta is phenomenal.

It seems that the addition of Aui_2000 to the team was a great decision and might lead to many excellent results. This season, apart from BetBoom Dacha Dubai and DreamLeague S22, there will be at least five other important Dota 2 events with prizes of $1 million or more. Riyadh Masters 2024 and The International 13 are expected to be the most epic.

If Team Falcons can maintain their competitive edge, we might see them beating Gaimin Gladiators, Team Spirit, and Team Liquid at every major event.

Despite qualifying for the second group stage, Aurora did not manage to win a single match and it seems that they are heavily outmatched at this competitive level. It’s not yet clear what needs to be changed, but it’s fair to assume that 23, Jabz, and the coach SunBhie will not be changed any time soon because they’re too important.

Shopify Rebellion also struggled and only won 2 matches out of 7. This failure is likely a result of lacking a strong captain. Back when Fly was the team’s captain, things worked pretty well for Rebellion. The team did not win anything important, but there were moments when they came close, like at DreamLeague S21, where they finished 2^nd.

Arteezy is doing his job and it’s difficult to ask more of him. What seems to be needed is a deeper understanding of the meta and how it can be used to gain an edge.

Gaimin Gladiators will need to rethink their strategy after this tournament. They clearly lost their competitive advantage from 2023 and are no longer unbeatable.

For Falcons, BetBoom, Spirit, and Xtreme Gaming, everything seems to be going according to plan. It will be interesting to see the Chinese team competing in the playoffs. Ame is probably eager to win a new trophy.
