Dota 2 patch 7.33d brought a lot of hero changes but only a handful of item changes. These changes, however, will be quite impactful.

It seems that IceFrog wants to bring back Eternal Shroud, make Octarine Core better suited for intelligence-based heroes, and change players’ tendency to buy Vanguard as their first item.

Eternal Shroud changes

Eternal Shroud’s recipe now costs just 600 gold instead of 800. This brings the total cost of the item down to 3100, which is still quite high, but at least it’s manageable.

The item now has a mana conversion rate of 30% instead of 25%. This makes it the perfect choice against lineups that rely primarily on magic damage. The other attributes of Eternal Shroud are: +14 strength, +7 HP regen, +30 magic resistance. On heroes like Bristleback, this is one of the best defensive items that you can buy.

Despite the buffs, Shroud will remain a niche item that should be purchased by heroes that need a lot of mana and could benefit from the +30% magic resistance. If the enemy team has three heroes that primarily deal physical damage, don’t buy it.

Octarine Core changes

Octarine Core now requires two Void Stones instead of one. The second Void Stone has replaced the Ring of Health. The item no longer provides +7.5 HP regen. Instead, it provides +5 mana regen. Previously, it used to give you only +3.25 mana regen.

Octarine Core can now be rushed by some heroes, which could potentially change the meta. There’s a lot of emphasis on tankiness and physical damage right now. But with a few more buffs to mages like Invoker and their items, Dota 2 has the potential to become magic-heavy again.

Vanguard Changes

Vanguard got nerfed again. A short while ago, it gave +5.5 HP regen and 64 damage block on melee heroes. Now it only gives +4.5 HP regen and 50 damage block. This makes it much less appealing than before.

At 1700 gold, it’s an expensive item to buy for just 50 damage block, some HP regen, and +250 HP. No doubt, some offlaners will continue to buy it because it provides a good combination of stats for the early game. But many more will start to look into other items, such as Plate Mail or even Blade Mail.

Ring of Health changes

This item now provides just 4.5 HP regen instead of 4.75.
