Activision announced the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II official launch date via a trailer showcasing the key character artwork at the Los Angeles seaport. The game will be released on October 28, 2022.

As a part of the release trailer video, the developers showed key character art in a publicity stunt in the port of Los Angeles’ Long Beach. The video shows huge art pieces from the game on a cargo ship, likely referring to the game’s hyper-realistic graphics.

The 90,000 square feet iconography, reportedly visible from space, features original characters from the Modern Warfare series Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Captain John Price, John “Soap” MacTavish, Simon “Ghost” Riley in his iconic skeleton mask and Colonel Alejandro Vargas — a new character in the series.

On the official Call of Duty website, Infinity Ward developers explained the creation process of the video:

“Over the course of 24 hours, a team maneuvered a massive cargo ship containing a Modern Warfare II wrap displaying the enigmatic Task Force 141 Operative Ghost on its storage containers and docked at the port that contained another MWII image, completing the giant puzzle.”

“As the docking took place, drone footage captured the ship’s movement in its entirety while also revealing some initial key announcements for the game – including artwork revealing a first look at Task Force 141’s additional members and the release date.”

More details expected in June

For a quick moment throughout the trailer video, the date ‘June 8, 2022’ is shown without further explanation. According to community speculations based on the hint in the video, more details about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and its storyline will be revealed later in the summer.

However, other sources say that Activision might present new details about Modern Warfare II at Summer Game Fest or XBOX gaming showcase, which will take place on June 9 and 12, respectively. This information has not been confirmed by the publisher.

Modern Warfare

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a sequel to the Modern Warfare reboot from 2019. Apart from iconic characters, players will get acquainted with new heroes and play a completely new campaign, which might allegedly feature Drug War in Columbia.

With the developer of the classic Modern Warfare trilogy working on the new title in the franchise, the game is likely to have a vibe authentic to its predecessors. Moreover, Activision claims that this sequel of CoD resembles ”a new era” for the series.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be the last “annual” title released in the whole franchise. The CoD game that was planned to launch in 2023 is rescheduled to 2024 as a result of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard still being in progress.
