After a complicated and disappointing end of the season, DarkZero Esports announced that they are sending Brody “Xynew” Geissler to the team’s bench.

This is a somewhat unexpected announcement, as let’s remember that DarkZero is one of the most consistent teams in the Apex Legends competitive scene. However, as it happens in esports if a team does not have a good end of the season or fails in an important tournament, changes are usually made to the lineup.

This time, it’s all related to the terrible level of play shown by DarkZero’s squad in the ALGS Championship 2023.

DarkZero sent Xynew to the team bench

Through a post on their official Twitter/Z account, DarkZero Esports announced that Xynew is sent to the team’s bench. As a result, Xynew is now a Restricted Free Agent. In addition, the organization said that it was a decision made in conjunction with the player and that they believe it is “best” for both parties.

This becomes DarkZero Esports’ third major move since joining the Apex Legends competitive scene. Similarly, remember that while the team is successful, it has very little time in Apex, as its first steps were in 2022. However, on that occasion, the organization signed the winner of ALGS Champions 2022.

In 2023, DarkZero had an up-and-down year, but they started on a high, as they entered the TOP 15 of the Division 1 playoffs and then won Division 2. However, in the ALGS Championship 2023, DarkZero could not get beyond the Group Stage, which disappointed them.

DarkZero wants to revamp its Apex squad

Benching Xynew indicates, as we mentioned, that the player is in Restricted Free Agency, i.e., looking for opportunities in another organization.

In the official statement, DarkZero said that this decision was made in “conjunction with the player” as they concluded it was best for “both parties.”

On the other hand, on his personal Twitter/X account, Xynew has also posted that it was a joint decision and asked fans not to blame or speak ill of his former teammates.

Xynew arrived at DarkZero in May 2023, when the season began. At that time, Xynew replaced Rick “Sharky” Wirth shortly after they had signed Beau “RamBeau” Sheidy for that same position. However, RamBeau’s return to action only lasted 1 month. As mentioned, DarkZero won the Split 2 playoffs and earned $300,000 in prize money.

Right now, DarkZero is, like many organizations, looking for players to fill out their roster for the upcoming ALGS season.
