While there is a lot of good news at this beginning of the CS2 era, we also have some bad news revolving around big organizations that are still not at 100% of their conditions.

In this IEM Sydney, we have witnessed some surprises, the biggest being the elimination of Team Vitality after losing their first two games. However, in Group B, we also witnessed two surprises, as neither Cloud9 nor Fnatic could advance to the tournament playoffs, as they were eliminated in the semifinals of the Lower Bracket.

On Cloud9’s side, it seems that the super lineup is still not completely compact, and they need a change to succeed in future tournaments. Whereas, Fnatic is a team of many ups and downs and is in a performance slump right now.

Cloud9 falls to COL and are eliminated from IEM Sydney 2023

The dangerous Cloud9 squad was defeated by Complexity in the Lower Bracket Group B 2-1 semifinals to be eliminated from IEM Sydney 2023. COL is one of the teams with the best pace in recent months, while Cloud9 fell short in this tournament.

The series was held at Anubis, Ancient and Inferno.

Anubis

It all started at Anubis, Complexity Gaming’s map pick, where we witnessed a really exciting match defined by small details. In the first half, the teams did not hurt each other, as the score ended with an excellent 6-6 that left many possibilities for the second half.

Then, at the change of sides, COL’s defense managed to stop Cloud9’s offenses, and they managed to seal the victory on the first map by 13-9.

Ancient

On the second map, Ancient, things changed radically, as Cloud9 made their map pick respected with an excellent victory that made us think that the team could complete a reverse sweep.

In the first half, Denis “electroNic” Sharipov annihilated all Complexity’s hopes to take a solid and spectacular 11-1 partial victory on their T Side. Finally, at the change of sides, Cloud9 won the two remaining rounds to take the 13-6 victory to even the series 1-1.

Inferno

Finally, Complexity Gaming continued to demonstrate their excellent level of play in the third map to take the victory and thus stay alive in the tournament.

In the first half, COL deployed a practically impenetrable defense for the C9 guys and managed to take the victory by 9-3. Finally, at the change of sides, Cloud9 could not win a single round on their CT Side and ended up falling with a terrible score of 3-13. As a result, C9 leaves the tournament with a very bad taste in their mouths.

Monte apply a reverse sweep against Fnatic to stay alive at IEM Sydney 2023

In the other Lower Bracket match, we witnessed an excellent comeback by Monte against Fnatic to stay alive in the tournament. On the other hand, this is a disappointing result for the guys from Fnatic, who were looking forward to giving a good performance in this first tournament in the CS2 era.

The series took place in Overpass, Anubis, and Vertigo.

Overpass

It all started at Overpass, Fnatic’s map pick, where the Black & Orange started on the right foot with an excellent 13-10 victory.

Fredrik “roeJ” Jørgensen carried Fnatic to an excellent 8-4 partial victory in the first half. Then, at the change of sides, Monte tried to get closer on the scoreboard by winning 6 of 11 disputed rounds. However, they were not enough to prevent Fnatic from taking the victory in this first map of the series.

Anubis

On the second map, Anubis, things changed dramatically as Monte woke up and hit back to even the series 1-1.

In the first half, Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev put in a mind-blowing performance to give Monte a 9-3 partial victory. Finally, at the change of sides, Fnatic’s defense could not stop the Ukrainian squad’s approaches and conceded 4-13.

Vertigo

Finally, Vertigo witnessed Monte Esports’ comeback in this series against Fnatic.

In the first half, the Ukrainian squad managed to stop Fnatic’s advances 7 times to take a narrow 7-5 partial victory. Volodymyr “Woro2k” Veletniuk and Alexander “br0” Bro avoided several orange offensives.

Finally, at the change of sides, Fnatic’s defense was weak again. For the second map in a row, they could win only one round to end up falling by 6-13.
