Evil Geniuses players thank beastcoast after securing spot at TI11

The 12 teams that will receive direct invitations to The International 11 have been determined. Today, beastcoast put an end to the drama by defeating Fnatic in the first round of the lower bracket of PGL Arlington Major.

Thanks to this victory, Evil Geniuses are guaranteed the 12th spot in the global rankings, as there is no one else who can challenge them. All of the participants left in the race are either top 12 teams themselves or too far away from the top 12 of DPC.

EG’s Celebration

EG had the opportunity to qualify on their own merits yesterday, when all they had to do was to beat Entity and finish in the top eight at PGL Arlington Major. They won game one but then lost games two and three.

That gave Fnatic an excellent opportunity and they seemed very close to taking advantage of it. However, their opponent, beastcoast, made an excellent comeback and won the match, ruining Fnatic’s dreams and winning EG a spot at TI11.

As everyone can imagine, EG’s players probably watched that match like a TI Grand Final and screamed with joy when beastcoast emerged victorious. Immediately after the match, the tweets started to be sent between the two teams.

The Tweets

Beastcoast were fully aware of the implications their success was going to have and tweeted a meme targeted at Artour “Arteezy” Babaev to show their intentions to win the match. This happened the day before the match against Fnatic.

The tweet was greeted by the entire North American community because everyone rooted for EG. After all, with EG directly invited, one or even two other teams were going to have the opportunity to earn a spot as well.

Then, after beastcoast won the match, Arteezy and EG’s captain, Tal “Fly” Aizik, tweeted at beastcoast. Both of them were obviously relieved and thankful for the gift. A simple participation at The International, assuming you don’t finish last, is worth anywhere between $300,000 and $500,000 at a minimum, depending on the total prize pool.

On top of that, it’s great to have the opportunity to participate in the best Dota 2 tournament of the year. That gives a team two months of high-intensity training and it can be truly exciting to go through that process as a team. A lot of growth happens when players experience this and it’s good for everyone’s morale.
