The movements in the most important esports organizations in the world continue. After seasons that have started with completely disappointing results, some organizations have decided to change lineups or coaches.

100 Thieves, or 100T, as we all know it, has announced that they have fired their League of Legends Head Coach, Christophe “Kaas” van Oudheusden, due to the team’s poor performance after only 13 games played in the 2023 LCS season.

100T fires Kaas

After a disappointing season starts for 100T, the organization took the drastic decision to part ways with the Head Coach of the LoL team, Kaas. However, remember that this team is shaping up every season to fight for the LCS honors.

This information was known through a statement on the team’s official Twitter account.

As we can see in the publication, 100T decides to promote Erlend “Nukeduck” Holm to the position of interim Head Coach. On the other hand, Danny “Dandan” Le Comte, the coach of 100T’s Challengers team, has also been promoted to the main LCS team.

Following the announcement, Kaas responded to 100 Thieves’ Tweet explaining the reasons for his departure. Kaas said:

“100 Thieves management envisioned certain values for the headcoach position and they didn’t end up matching with me. That combined with recent results made their decision.”

Bad start to the season for 100T

Six weeks into the LCS Spring Split 2023, 100 Thieves is in seventh place with a 5-8 record. While the Split is still a few weeks away, we can point out that the team would be out of the playoffs if this ends today.

Despite the team’s bad moments, it is worth remembering that 100T started the Split with four consecutive victories. This, undoubtedly, gave the players a lot of confidence and emotions in their fans. However, after that, they managed to win only one of their last eight games, which made the board decide to replace their head coach.

Last Friday, 100T lost to CLG in a vital game in this Split, as both teams are fighting for one of the last playoff spots. On the other hand, in head-to-head matchups against LCS teams, 100T has been swept three times. If the team wins all their remaining games, they will finish with a 10-8 regular season record.

With that, they could secure their place in the playoffs if they do not tie any other team. Let’s remember that no team in the history of the LCS has qualified for the playoffs with only seven wins. However, 100T has the advantage that three of their remaining games are against teams they have already beaten in this Split, Immortals, TSM, and Dignitas.

A litmus test for Nukeduck

Now, Nukeduck has a litmus test to start his journey as Head Coach of 100T on March 9. The team will face Golden Guardians, which has won eight of its last nine games played.

We will have to wait for the start of this new LCS week to see if 100T’s problem was their coach. If not, the organization will likely start shuffling options to make essential substitutions in the squad for the rest of the season.
