100 Thieves announce Zikz as new Head Coach

What was an open secret has become an absolute reality since, after several reports in recent days, 100 Thieves officially announce Tony “Zikz” Gray as the new Head Coach for the VCT 2024.

This is a great move by the North American organization, as let’s remember that Zikz comes from being VALORANT Champions 2023 champion with Evil Geniuses. In addition, this marks Zikz’s return to the organization, as he coached the 100T League of Legends squad in the LCS for a season and a half.

This is an exceptional case in the VALORANT scene, as it is rare to see a jump from League of Legends to Riot’s tactical shooter. However, after more than 5 years coaching different teams in the LCS, Zikz decides to jump to VALORANT in 2022.

Likewise, Zikz comes to 100T with a really important track record, as he was a member of that Evil Geniuses squad that won the VALORANT Champions 2023 a few weeks ago.

100 Thieves confirms the signing of Zikz

Through a post on their Twitter/X account, 100 Thieves confirmed the signing of Zikz as the new Head Coach of their VALORANT lineup heading into VCT 2024. Similarly, even though Zikz was an assistant coach at EG, both Christine “potter” Chi and several players on the staff mentioned Zikz for all he contributed to EG’s victory.

As we mentioned, this is a reunion between Zikz and 100T, as he coached the LoL squad in the 2020 season and the Spring Split of the 2021 LCS season. However, since then, Zikz decided to take the leap to coach in VALORANT.

On the other hand, the announcement by 100 Thieves also mentions that Michael “Mikes” Hockom, the Head Coach of the team during the 2023 season, becomes assistant coach. Likewise, this is not something new for Mikes, as he had this role in 100T when Sean Gares, the popular content creator, was the team’s Head Coach.

Important mission for Zikz and Mikes

Zikz and Mikes have a really important mission at 100T, as they must completely improve the team’s performance in the upcoming VCT season.

In 2023, 100 Thieves underperformed, failing to qualify for the VCT Americas League playoffs and falling in the first round of the VCT LCQ for the VALORANT Champions 2023.

On the other hand, 100T is currently under construction, and they are actively searching the market for players who can turn their situation around. Similarly, it was recently reported that 100T was close to signing Kelden “Boostio” Pupello from EG, but the VCT Champions 2023 champions turned down the offer.

While the start of VCT 2023 is still several months away, 100T has much to do if they want to build a solid squad to be at the top. In addition, the team has a date at the Red Bull Home Ground 4 to be played in early November.
