Tundra Esports took the Dota 2 world by storm by winning The International 11. As fans celebrated the success of the team, many fans have been wondering whether Coach Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling’s contract with the team will be renewed or, if he will be fired after winning the championship like eight years ago with Evil Geniuses.

When Aui came on stage with the rest of the Tundra players after their victory in TI11, he already joked that he would be kicked out again, but it looks like that won’t happen this time.

Tundra extends contract with Aui_2000

Aui_2000 and Tundra have agreed on another year together, as the organization announced last week. Shortly after the announcement, Tundra released a short video showing Aui searching for the TI11 to find Wu “Sneyking” Jingjun, Martin “Saksa” Sazdov, Leon “Nine” Kirilin, Oliver “Skiter” Lepko, and Neta “33” Shapiraist.

The coach found the group in a house where each team member was engaged in their own hobby. Searching the house, Aui sees that each member was lounging in their own way. A meeting was called and Aui brought the team back to reality. Scrims were scheduled for the next morning, and the Tundra players got motivated for the upcoming season in hopes of breaking OG’s record of two TI wins. “So you guys won a TI,” Aui said in the short video. “Oops, I won two; we still have a lot to do.”

Tundra’s success in 2022

Last year, Tundra Esports won The International with a 3-0 win over Team Secret in the Grand Final without losing a single series in the Main Event. The year before that, in 2021, the team didn’t make it to The International, but Tundra decided to keep the lineup anyway. After signing Coach Aui_2000, the team successfully qualified for all three Majors this season.

Then, Tundra’s run at The International 2022 hit like a storm, although it wasn’t completely unexpected, considering their successful season. At The International, they won their group and lost only one game in the entire playoff phase. Following their Grand Final victory, Tundra took home a whopping $8.5 million and definitely made a name for themselves in the professional Dota 2 scene.

The 2023 DPC Winter Tour for the Western Europe region kicks off today, January 9, with Tundra set to open the seasoning a match against OG.

According to Valve’s recent announcement, the Dota 2 Majors in 2023 will be held in Berlin, Bali, and Lima.
