Esports has been around long enough to produce some incredible records. Some of them are spectacular and stay with the scene for an eternity, while some of them are just fun and entertaining.

Our list has all of that going for it, as we present to you the top 10 craziest esports records of all time.

10. Highest headshot rate in Counter-Strike

Rank 10 of our list starts with the highest headshot rate in Counter-Strike. This record is held by none other than Scream. With a remarkable record of 68.1%, the Belgian was not without reason given the nickname “Headshot Machine”. With a total of 27501 kills, he is  76th in the kill rankings, but his precision in kills is unbeatable.

9. Most deaths in a Dota 2 match

“Take one for the Team” was probably taken too literally by Danish ex-Dota 2 pro Maelk in this record. He holds the record for the most deaths in a Dota 2 match. That alone doesn’t make him the record holder, but the fact that his team was able to win despite this subterranean performance. With a score of 0 kills and 20 deaths, other players would have already been reported for feeding. Maelk, however, was instead given an award named after him: the Maelk Award.

8. Most defeats at Worlds

Every League of Legends fan is familiar with the player Doublelift. During his active time he was considered one of the best AD Carry players in North America and dominated the national stage at will. His statistics in World Championships, however, are quite different. He took part in these eight times in his career. However, he never won the coveted trophy. On the contrary, he holds the record for the most defeats at League of Legends World Championships. He suffered 27 defeats on the big international stage and only reached the tournament playoffs in Season 1.

7. Longest losing streak in esports

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. But sometimes, you lose a bit more, as the Shanghai Dragons in 2018, which brought them the record for the longest losing streak in esports. During the 2018 Overwatch League, the team from China lost every single match of the season, finishing the split with an abysmal record of 0-40. The losing streak even extended beyond the season, as they lost two more matches during a tournament in 2019 before the 42-game losing streak ultimately came to an end. With these results, the Shanghai Dragons got even in the Guinness Book of Records.

6. Most won clutches

The 6th place in our list is occupied by the French CS star Shox. He holds the record for the most 1vsX clutches in Counter-Strike, with a remarkable number — 802 times. An absurd amount if you ask us. Opponents regularly cut their teeth on him and as long as Shox was alive, the outcome of the round was uncertain.

5. Highest creep score in LoL

Farming Minions is one of the basic mechanics in League of Legends. Mastering it gives you a big advantage in the game. But what if the game just won’t end and you keep farming minions? Korean League player Tedd found out: you set a world record. In a 2018 LCK Spring Split match that lasted just under 95 minutes, Teddy farmed more than diligently and ended up with a creep score of 1465 by the end of the match. The effort paid off, and Teddy was able to lead his team to victory against the Korean superteam SKT T1.

4. Shortest esports career

Rank 4 sets three records at once. Starting with Korean League of Legends player Apdo, who arguably has the shortest esports career of all time. Known for his Korean solo cue, Apdo decided to join an esports team one day, only to be banned for Elo boosting after 19 days. That gave him the next record — his League of Legends account was banned for 1000 years, the longest ban in esports history. And if all that wasn’t enough, in the following split his former team lost the fastest League of Legends game ever after 8 minutes and 23 seconds without him.

3. Highest prize money won

It’s no longer a secret that successful esports players earn good money these days. This also applies to the Dota 2 team of OG Esports, who are by far the record holders in this category. If you take the prize money of all five players together, they come to a total tournament prize money of over $30 million. For comparison, the five-man Counter Strike roster of Astralis came to a total of about $9.5 million during their most successful period. Dota 2 is a goldmine for esports players, so this insane sum makes #3 on our list.

2. Longest map win streak on LAN event

Seasoned CS:GO fans will remember this record. We are talking about Ninjas in Pyjamas and their insane 87 LAN maps win streak. Not only they won 87 games in a row, they didn’t lose a single map in the process. To go undefeated in Counter-Strike for even a short period of time is remarkable. This record, set by the Swedes between 2012 and 2013, is unlikely to ever be broken again. Virtus.Pro were able to break the Ninjas’ win streak back then, but probably no one will ever challenge them for the record again.

1. Most Street Fighter wins in a row

The first place in our list of the craziest records in esports goes to Street Fighter pro Ryan Hart. In a record attempt, the Brit managed an incredible 260 wins in a row during an 11-hour gaming marathon. In doing so, he set the record for the most consecutive victories. He played through the 11 hours without a break, taking this incredible challenge to celebrate the release of the latest installment in the long-running video game series. The curious thing is that he actually set a goal to win 90% of his matches. In the end, he managed to defeat all the players and thus enter the Guinness Book of Records. So much stamina and talent deservedly make it to number 1 on our list.
