The hero meta of Dota 2 patch 7.33b

Dota 2 patch 7.33b introduced a lot of significant changes, which led to a shift in the meta. Not a big shift because that shift occurred immediately after the release of patch 7.33. But it’s still a palpable one.

The top 10 most successful heroes in the game have win rates of more than 53%. And in half a dozen cases, that win rate is around 55%. One hero is an exception to every rule and has a win rate of 59%, as well as a pick rate of close to 20%. That hero is Medusa and she will absolutely get a huge nerf in patch 7.33c.

But until that patch arrives, everyone is going to either pick or ban Medusa in every game. This carry is completely broken at the moment. Math doesn’t lie. When you do the basic calculations, you immediately realize that Medusa has more than double the damage of a usual carry and she’s tankier than most tanks.

These characteristics clearly prove that she is overpowered and should be brought back to around a 50%-53% win rate. For that to happen, her Mana Shield and Split Shot will need to be severely nerfed.

The strongest 10 heroes of patch 7.33b

Here are the best heroes of this patch:

  • Medusa: 59% win rate / 19.4% pick rate
  • Underlord: 55.9% win rate / 11% pick rate
  • Legion Commander: 55.2% win rate / 21.6% pick rate
  • Dark Seer: 55% win rate / 2.85% pick rate
  • Silencer: 54.9% win rate / 17% pick rate
  • Riki: 54.6% win rate / 15% pick rate
  • Meepo: 54.5% win rate / 3% pick rate
  • Axe: 54% win rate / 18.2% pick rate
  • Ancient Apparition: 54% win rate / 9% pick rate
  • Undying: 53.6% win rate / 11% pick rate

Depending on your playstyle and usual role, some of these heroes will be better suited than others. Of course, you can always pick an Invoker if you have 500 Invoker games and completely ignore the fact that in this meta, his win rate is 45%. But it’s generally better to adapt to what works well and master new heroes.

Any of the 10 heroes listed above could easily help a team to win if played well. A good Meepo player, if the game is slow paced, will win on his own after the 20 minute mark. A good Medusa, if she’s allowed to farm, will become unkillable extremely fast.

Sometimes, a strong hero becomes weak because it’s counterpicked. But in most scenarios, an OP hero will remain OP regardless of what the enemy picks.
