Tyson “TenZ” Ngo is, at least for now, the biggest name in Valorant stardom. The Sentinels superstar has gotten a massive following and is considered among the world’s top players. But an emerging talent is poised to take some of TenZ’s limelight at Masters Madrid this year.

Meet Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish of Team Heretics. The former Fortnite pro is making waves with his impressive gameplay and compelling story of his life changing from one massive esport to another. While benjyfishy is a relative newcomer to Valorant, the rapper already has over 1.8 million followers on Twitter – more than TenZ himself.

The hype and anticipation surrounding benjyfishy as he prepares for his first major international LAN appearance at Masters Madrid continues to grow. Many eyes are squarely on him for his unique backstory and potential breakout star role. But can he really compete against TenZ on the biggest stage? We’ll break down the tape between these two Valorant phenoms.

TenZ is clearly an elite Valorant player, and no one can dispute that. The Canadian rifler is dominating since the game was created and has become the face of the North American professional scene. Crispy aim and blistering play have made him a nightmare for opponents and earned him a worldwide following.

TenZ’s accomplishments speak for themselves. He was the first member of the elite Sentinels roster and helped them win their first Valorant Champions event in 2021. He is a six-time tournament MVP and multiple winner of the NBA Randy Bevins Charity Shield. In other words, TenZ has been there and done that at the highest levels of Valorant.

Benjyfishy – The Fortnite Fortitude

While TenZ was still slicing his teeth in Valorant’s early days, benjyfishy was already carving his mark as an elite talent in another genre – battle royale Fortnite. He is part of the elite NRG Esports team and has recently won the USD 3 million Fortnite World Cup Finals in 2019 with his trio teammates.

That pressure and spotlight at such a high-stakes event was invaluable and has definitely prepared benjyfishy for his move to Valorant esports. While he is a relative novice to Riot’s tactical shooter, he has already proved his worth by taking Heretics to the Masters Madrid event in the EMEA Last Chance Qualifier.

The fact that benjyfishy took a huge risk walking away from a game he was already a champion says a lot about his hunger and competitive spirit. In a statement at the pre-tournament press conference, he said he thought Fortnite lacked the competitive depth he wanted and Valorant delivered in a more satisfying manner that matched his passion.

X-Factor Potential

But ultimately it is benjyfishy’s boom-or-bust potential at Masters Madrid that makes him such an intriguing prospect. Whereas TenZ comes into the tournament as a commodity with a ridiculously high floor, benjyfishy is more of an enigma with a ceiling that remains unknown.

He may be a wildcard that catches teams unaware given his inexperience with the details of playing offline on the big stage. Or it could lead to a disappointing debut as the enormity of the event proves overwhelming for someone lacking that experience.

Regardless of how he performs, you know all eyes will be on benjyfishy due to his backstory and crossover appeal. Fortnite, Valorant, and just good stories in general fans will be interested to see if he climbs or falls into the brightest spotlight he’s had yet.

In a sense, benjyfishy is the new breed of transcendent esports talent willing to take on multiple titles to fulfill their competitive dreams. Where players were at one time pigeonholed into one game, he is showing versatility along with a desire to succeed in virtually any game he plays.

So TenZ may be Valorant’s alpha dog for now, but don’t be surprised if benjyfishy steals some thunder at Masters Madrid. Whether that means outright outperforming and overshadowing TenZ or simply captivating the audience with his personal journey remains to be seen. But this old gunner vs new phenom showdown is quickly becoming the headliner fight to watch in Spain’s capital city.
