After a phenomenal closing season, everything pointed to the New York Subliners as one of the teams that would not make many changes for the 2024 season. However, in the last few hours, we were surprised by the news that the New York Subliners released Preston “Priestahh” Greiner.
This move comes after the organization won the Major 5 and, in addition, the CDL Championship 2023, which is unexpected. However, reports indicate that problems regarding the renewal of the player’s contract led to this decision by the Subliners.
New York Subliners part ways with Priestahh
Through an announcement on their Twitter account, the New York Subliners confirmed Priestahh’s departure from their COD lineup heading into the 2024 Call of Duty League season.
From the underdog to the top dawg. We want to thank @Priestahh for the achievements, accomplishments, and culture you brought under our banner.
You will always be remembered by us as a significant part of Subliners history. We wish you the best of luck in your career as a Call… pic.twitter.com/ZPLDU6Si3l

As we can see, the organization wished Priestahh well in his farewell message, and, in addition, they also shared a very striking message where they stated that the player will always be a very important part of the franchise’s history.
With the Subliners, Priestahh lifted the world champion trophy for the first time, as the player lost two finals playing for 100 Thieves (2019) and Atlanta FaZe (2020). In addition, after the announcement by the Subliners, Priestahh published a Tweet where he referred to the fact that he does not understand this decision and that it is a very complicated “pill” to swallow.
However, in the same message, Priestahh assures that he will soon share a video explaining why he and the Subliners parted ways.
The best season I’ve had in my career and I’ve been released. Definitely a hard pill to swallow, but I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be back. Might make a short video of this process so people can have a little bit more of an understanding of what happened. Appreciate anyone… https://t.co/PblTdmdSED

An unexpected change
In every Call of Duty League offseason, it is normal for most players to decide to become unrestricted free agents to explore their options for next season. What’s more, in this offseason that we are currently witnessing, more than 75% of the players are unrestricted free agents. However, teams that win the CDL Championship tend to keep their core of players, a merit that not all teams achieve.
Even since the competitive COD scene has held a world championship annually since 2013, teams that win the tournament have never changed their starting lineup heading into the following season. This, of course, obviates those mandatory changes regarding team size and that sort of inconvenience.
Now, all fans of the team and the CDL are in anticipation as to whether the Subliners got this move right. However, recently, it has been heard that the Subliners would be interested in former Seattle Surge player Daunte “Sib” Gray. If this move is confirmed, he would likely be a big help. This is a very good player, and his role is similar to Priestahh’s.
