League of Legends players is ready to start the new game season, which kicks off on January 11 in almost all regions worldwide.

As has been a tradition by Riot Games, they have detailed a Roadmap for the 2023 League of Legends season. Now, one of the highlights of this new season is the reveal of two new champions for the game, Milio, and Naafiri.

New season, New Champions

Last year we witnessed the addition of five new champions to the ever-growing roster of League of Legends champions. But, for this recent season, Riot has promised a mix of new champions and some improvements to the older ones.

LoL champions product manager Lexi “Riot Lexical” Gao has revealed that Milio and Naafiri will be the first champions to jump on board in early 2023.

Gao said:

“After these two champions, players will also get the chance to meet a “hangry jungler” and an “artistic mid-laner.”

Recall that rumors of new League of Legends champions have been swirling for several weeks. Specifically, since August, when Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, champion producer, talked about the new champions and gave some clues about their origin.

About Milio

At the press conference we mentioned last August, Reav3 said that Riot planned to release a male Support champion from the Ixtal region.

However, at that time, the hero was still at a very early stage of development. In the video shown earlier, an art teaser featured three tiny orange creatures that could be part of the champion.

From the description released by Lexical, Milio will use fire for his powers and is a very young champion. Lexical said:

“Milio doesn’t use fire to raze cities but to soothe wounds.”

He then detailed that he carries a small backpack on his back. His biggest challenge seems to be “the Vidalion,” but Riot Games has not clarified what or who exactly the Vidalion is.

About Naafiri

If, on the one hand, we have that Milio will be an adorable champion; on the other, Riot has revealed that Naafiri will be much more daring.

Last year, Reav3 teased Naafiri using different phrases like “barking for some Darkin,” “throw me a fucking bone here,” “stalking,” and “trust me” when talking about this new champion.

Riot also confirmed that Naafiri’s primary weapon would be a dagger but did not reveal who would use it. This is why players immediately associated her with Naafiri, the Mid Laner assassin who would be in the form of a wolf or a dog, as revealed in the video.

Finally, in the 2023 season, lexical made more fuel to the fire, and while Naafiri’s equipment remains abstract, Riot hints that the champion would have different forms or bodies.

Lexical said:

“Her newfound body…or bodies…seems like a cruel twist of fate at first but they prove useful for locating her fellow Darkin, and as a source of wisdom. After all, it is always better to hunt in a pack.”
