The chemistry in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team has changed and figuring out how it works has been a challenge for many players. If you want to know how to get more chemistry for your team, you’ve come to the right place.
The age-old system of players of the same nationality and league standing side by side to improve chemistry has been scrapped in favor of a Madden-style alternative. If you’re not comfortable with this — or need a little reminder while you’re building a new team — this will work.
Chemistry system of FIFA 23
All players on the grid can now boost chemistry groups, not just strong or weak connections between individual cards. The maximum chemistry that can be obtained in the game is 33/33, replacing the old 100 chemistry system. One of the EA developers explained why the chemistry was changed, citing the possibility of more hybrid teams.

As you add groups of players with the same nation, league, and club, your chemistry will increase in spurts, which is shown as dots and diamonds in the menu. In order to improve your chemistry, you must fill as many points as possible by adding players that contribute to the total.
When you have a full Diamond with 7 players with Premier League ties, you are left with the opportunity to use the remaining spots on the starting lineup to build chemistry for another league or nation. Perhaps the remaining four players are from Barcelona, which would give you strong links to a club, a league, and possibly a nation (if they are from the same country).
Perfect chemistry combinations
This system allows teams not to be tied to specific leagues and without the limitations of specific ties so that it’s easier to create a flexible mix. To improve the chemistry in Ultimate Team, there are three possible combinations depending on whether you are connecting players from the same club, nation, or league.

With these combinations, you can achieve the maximum chemistry:
- Club: 2x players of 1 chemistry, 5x players of 2 chemistry, 7x players of 3 chemistry
- Nation: 2x player of 1 chemistry, 5x player of 2 chemistry, 8x player of 3 chemistry
- League: 3x players of 1 chemistry, 5x players of 2 chemistry, 8x players of 3 chemistry
If you can’t handle that, there are also other cards that can increase chemistry. However, these boosts don’t come cheap.
- ICON: x2 chemistry for players from their nation
- Hero: x2 chemistry for players in their own league, x1 for the nation
Each of them get a maximum of chemistry, which earns three points each on the way to the magic number 33. In FIFA 23 it is not possible to play players in a different positions if you want to achieve high chemistry.
Check the primary and alternate positions on the maps to ensure players can play in the exact formation chosen when building the team. For example, someone like Fabinho can’t play as CM, but he can play as CDM.
If you have filled the right positions in the formation, you will slightly increase the chemistry values. For example, if you need to change a Rashford from LW to ST, you can do that if you bought or packed a position modifier card to make the change.
Do managers give chemistry in FIFA 23?
Managers don’t have much impact on chemistry, but they’re not unimportant either. Yes – managers add a point to your chemistry if they are of the same nation or league as the players on your team.
