FaZe Clan Advance to The Copenhagen Major Grand Final

Despite losing Twistzz to Team Liquid in December last year, FaZe Clan have demonstrated at PGL Major Copenhagen and IEM Katowice that they continue to be a formidable competitor in CS2.

At IEM Katowice they finished 2^nd after losing the Grand Final to Team Spirit. Now they’re in another Grand Final of an S-tier tournament, but this time we’re talking about a Major. FaZe won their last Major two years ago, at PGL Antwerp, where they defeated Natus Vincere in the final match. Now they’re up against them once again.

FaZe Clan started the Copenhagen Major in the second stage and barely qualified for the playoffs. They lost their first match, against HEROIC, 10 – 13 on Ancient. Their next match was against FURIA Esports and things went much better: 13 – 7 on Ancient. The third match was rough. Eternal Fire defeated them 13 – 1 on Overpass.

In the last two matches, FaZe had to defeat Imperial Esports and Complexity. The first match proved to be much harder than expected and karrigan’s team needed three maps to win. The second match was supposed to be really difficult but Complexity didn’t put up much of a fight. The scores were 13 – 6 on Nuke and 13 – 6 on Overpass.

Thanks to these results, FaZe Clan qualified for the playoffs, where they had to beat two formidable teams to reach the Grand Final.

Their first opponent was Team Spirit. Based on everything that had happened up until that point and also on the result from the Grand Final of IEM Katowice, Spirit were expected to win with ease.

But they ended up losing 1 – 2 after a very tough game that had two maps decided in overtime. The scores were 7 – 13 on Mirage, 19 – 16 on Nuke, and 14 – 16 on Vertigo.

Donk was exceptional, as usual, but the rest of his team struggled a lot. This meant that his 77 – 67 individual score couldn’t help Spirit win.

The semifinal match was played against Team Vitality. The two teams easily won their map picks and the winner was decided on Inferno, where FaZe Clan won 8 – 13. Every single Vitality player finished the match with a negative KD score.

After this victory, FaZe Clan should be regarded as the favorite to win PGL Major Copenhagen. Can Natus Vincere stop them? We’ll find out today.
