Ex-Monaspa are a very strong team that played in Western Europe’s Division I last Tour. However, few people would have predicted that when faced with opponents like Alliance and Old G, they would win match after match without accumulating any losses.

There are only two teams in WEU’s Division II that have remained undefeated so far: ex-Monaspa and Level UP. But the first of these teams has already played three matches, while the second one played just two.

The remaining teams have modest results by comparison. There are four teams with a record of 1 W – 1 L, one team (Ancient Tribe) with a record of 0 W – 2 L, and one team (Alliance) with an abysmal record of 0 W – 3 L. Nobody knows what’s going on with the roster led by Gustav “s4” Magnusson, but they’re clearly not playing well together.

Ex-Monaspa’s success

To better understand ex-Monaspa’s success, we need to go back to 2016. That year, two of ex-Monaspa’s current players were competing for Ad Finem, a Greek team that played in the Grand Final of The Boston Major. This result clearly demonstrated that Giorgios “SsaSpartan” Giannakopoulos is a strong player and captain.

Now, he leads his team against many of the opponents he used to play against seven years ago. The only difference is that everyone’s gotten weaker relative to the level of the region’s strongest teams.

No doubt, players like Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi and Sebastien “Ceb” Debs are stronger than they were in 2016. But compared to other players who are highly skilled at the moment, they simply cannot keep up. The 20-year-olds of today can dedicate 12 hours a day to Dota 2. Some of the veterans are married and have relatively busy lives.

The victories so far

Ex-Monaspa started the tournament with a win against IVY, a team full of unknown players that came from the Closed Qualifier. The score was 2-0 and both games lasted just 25-27 minutes. In other words, they were stomps.

In the second match of the Tour, ex-Monaspa faced Old G and needed three games to win. But in the end, they won, using Ursa and Oracle in both of their victories.

In the third match, the team faced Alliance and once again, proved to be just a little bit stronger. They won with heroes like Magnus, Juggernaut, Terrorblade, Ember Spirit, and Lycan.
