Division II of Western Europe has begun and its results will decide who will compete in Division I in Tour 1 of Dota Pro Circuit 2024.

This third Tour of the ongoing DPC has been very exciting to watch. But even though Division I matches are over, Division II matches are arguably just as interesting. That’s because numerous great players and some formidable teams are competing in this division.

Western Europe is by far the strongest Dota 2 region in the world. There are so many good teams here that there’s not enough room for all of them in Division I. This is certainly bad for them, because they’re in competition with one another, but it’s good for us as viewers.

WEU Div 2 favorites

Here are the eight teams that participate in WEU’s Division II:

  • Nigma Galaxy
  • Alliance
  • Old G
  • Ex-Monaspa
  • Into The Breach
  • Level UP
  • IVY
  • Ancient Tribe

The first five teams on this list have a real chance of getting promoted to Division I at the end of the Tour. It remains to be seen, which of them will prove to be the strongest.

On paper, Old G and Nigma Galaxy have all the right ingredients to be successful, but ex-Monaspa and Alliance are also very strong.

For a lot of fans, it will be hard not to cheer for Old G and Nigma because two legendary captains, Sebastien “Ceb” Debs and Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi, are part of them and in many ways, their founders.

The same two players met in 2019 in the Grand Final of The International. Ceb won that match while playing for OG. KuroKy was part of Team Liquid. This was Kuro’s last match as a member of Liquid and also the last time he competed at The International.

Since 2019, his Dota 2 career has been a long struggle to avoid descending into complete irrelevancy. Given that he is able to maintain his spot in Division II of the strongest region in the world, we can say that KuroKy is certainly still a highly skilled player.

But the chances of him making a real comeback are slim. If he’s fortunate enough, he’ll get to compete at another edition of The International in 2024. This year, his team has zero chances of qualifying for the event. But there’s a good chance that we’ll get to see Nigma in Division I again after Tour 3.
