After having a disappointing 2023 season, the popular Japanese organization, DetonatioN FocusMe, is planning a complete overhaul of its VALORANT lineup for VCT 2024. As a result, the organization is looking for new players, and quite unexpectedly, they are doing so through a public announcement.

The reality is that, in the top-tier esports scene, it is not common to observe organizations making public plans to make a roster renewal. Moreover, the fact that they are “openly” looking for players from the community makes this much rarer. However, there is no doubt that this is a great way to discover new talent, as many players are ignored despite having impressive stats in the solo queues.

DetonatioN FocusMe announce open tryouts for its VALORANT lineup

After disappointing results in this 2023 VCT season, DetonatioN FocusMe announced they would have some open tryouts to sign new players for next season. In addition, the organization mentions that they can be players from any corner of the world. Finally, DetonatioN FocusMe shares that interested players must meet the following basic requirements:

  • Be of legal age (18+ years old)
  • Have a Radiant rank in VALORANT (600+)
  • Belong to a country eligible for a Korean visa.

DetonatioN FocusMe is one of the worst teams in the VCT in 2023

While it is true that DetonatioN FocusMe is one of the most popular organizations in the Japanese esports scene, the 2023 season of their VALORANT division was disappointing.

The VALORANT team lost all the official matches they played during the season. Moreover, it is worth noting that these matches are from the start of VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023, VCT Pacific League 2023, and VCT 2023 LCQ Pacific. On the other hand, this time, the team only won two maps out of the 24 they played, which is terrible for a Tier 1 team.

As a result of this disappointing season, the organization will most likely decide to restructure its VALORANT lineup for the 2024 VCT season. In addition, the contracts of Park “Seoldam” Sang-min, Ryumon “Reita” Oshiro, and Seo “Suggest” Jae-young expire at the end of 2023, so they would have something in advance from these dates.

Finally, it is worth noting that DFM may have trouble signing top players for next season. First: because the team did not win a single game all season. Second, most Tier 1 players already have teams for next season. Third: the language in the team, because if they want to sign players from all over the world, they will have to become an English-speaking team.

Similarly, organizing these open tryouts can be a great mechanism for DFM to discover promising new players in their region and worldwide. In addition, the selected players can prove themselves at the VCT 2024.
