Born To Be Brave 2022 was a CS:GO charity tournament that raised around $500.000 for Ukraine.

The country is still involved in the tragic war that started in March, 2022, and Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, together with Natus Vincere, decided to create a tournament to raise some funds for the cause.

Tournament participants

Born To Be Brave was attended by four teams that were built on the spot. These teams featured a lot of amazing players from the world’s best CS:GO organizations. For obvious reasons, not a single Russian player was involved.

The team’s names were these:

  • Go Kill
  • One Shot
  • Rush A Rush B
  • You Shall Not Pass

More important than the names of the teams were the names of the players. S1mple teamed up with Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, and two other players in an attempt to win the tournament. But to everyone’s surprise, they lost the first match against a team that was supposed to be considerably weaker.

Some of the other big names that took part in the tournament are listed below:

  • Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken
  • Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis
  • Emil “Magisk” Reif
  • Dan “apEX” Madesclaire
  • William “mezii” Merriman

Overall, the tournament was fun to watch. How could it be boring when so many legendary players decided to take part in it and play on improvised teams?

Results

The results were surprising. The supposedly weakest team won. In the process, You Shall Not Pass defeated two competitors: One Shot and Rush A Rush B.

Against s1mple’s team, YSNP had a huge lead after the first half and finished with a score of 16-12. The map was Tuscan, which is probably the main reason why s1mple lost.

His team was full of players who only compete on maps from the Active Duty Map Pool. That’s because they need to constantly prepare for tournaments and don’t really have enough time to mess around. Of course, YSNP’s players were in the same situation, but their understanding of how the map needs to be played seemed to be a lot better.

In the other semifinal, Rush A Rush B crushed Go Kill. The final score was 8-16 and the map was Cobblestone. The best player on the server was s1mple’s teammate, Valeriy “b1t” Vakhovskiy, who ended the match with 26 kills and 17 deaths.

In the Grand Final, YSNP had a tough match against Rush A Rush B. The first map, Train, ended with a score of 16-14 in their favor. The second map was much easier: 16-8.
