BLAST Premier Spring Final 2023 started with four very interesting matches. Everything was supposed to be easy for the top favorites but in CS:GO, upsets occur quite frequently.

This is an S-tier tournament with only eight participants and a prize pool of $425.000. Because of that, everyone’s fighting hard to get an excellent result. The winner qualifies for BLAST Premier: World Final and receives $200.000.

Group A results (day 1)

The Paris Major champions, Team Vitality, lost against Imperial Esports, arguably the weakest team in the race. This was a monumental upset that puts the French squad at risk of elimination. Now they will need to defeat Cloud9 to advance to the playoffs and it won’t be easy.

Vitality’s players didn’t play poorly. Rather, Imperial played unusually well. Marcelo “chelo” Cespedes finished the match with a K-D score of 46-30. Meanwhile, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut had a K-D score of only 35-38. The scores were 3-16 on Overpass and 14-16 on Vertigo.

In the other match, between G2 Esports and Cloud9, G2 won with ease: 16-11 on Vertigo and 16-11 on Inferno. After the failure registered in Paris, G2 desperately need a good result here to rebuild their confidence. If nothing good happens in the next six months, they will probably end up changing their roster again.

The best player on the server was Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, who finished the match with a rating 2.0 of 1.31 and a K-D score of 43-32. For Cloud9, Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov also had a great match and his score was 42-38.

The main reason why C9 lost the match was Vladislav “nafany” Gorshkov’s poor performance: 21-40. With a rating 2.0 of 0.60, he was by far the weakest player on the server.

Group B results (day 1)

In group B of BLAST Premier Spring Final, Heroic and FaZe Clan started with one-sided victories. Heroic defeated Complexity (16-7 on Inferno and 16-6 on Nuke) while FaZe Clan did something similar against Astralis (16-5 on Overpass and 16-6 on Mirage).

The Winners Match in this group will be very exciting to watch. Based on everything we’ve seen in recent months, Heroic should win with ease. But maybe Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s team has managed to upgrade its playstyle enough to cause them serious problems.

No matter what happens in this match, both teams will advance to the playoffs.
