CCT North Europe Series #7 featured 24 teams and offered $50.000 in prize money. This B-tier CS:GO tournament had quite a few strong teams in attendance and was ultimately won by BIG, the German organization that has been trying to back to a top 20 position.

Earlier this year, BIG were ranked 14th globally, but now they’re back to being ranked much lower (24th). Nevertheless, when competing in events whose competitive level is not very high, BIG tend to perform really well.

At CCT North Europe Series #7, BIG encountered opponents like Endpoint, SAW, los kogutos, and Monte. All of them are fairly well-known at this point and in some cases, even popular. Monte, for instance, the team they had to defeat in the Grand Final, have a very famous IGL: Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev.

Last year, sdy had a lot of great results with Natus Vincere but was eventually replaced by a much younger player when Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev and the team’s management lost their patience and wanted to win big trophies again.

Unfortunately for them, replacing sdy didn’t help very much. But fortunately for him, he did find a good team where he can continue to play at the highest level.

BIG’s path to glory

Despite the B-tier competitive level, BIG’s path to winning the trophy in this tournament wasn’t easy. This was BIG’s first trophy in 2023, in any tournament class. So the players probably enjoyed it a lot, even though it’s relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

The first match, against Endpoint, finished 2-1 and every single map was difficult. The scores were 16-19 on Vertigo, 16-11 on Ancient, and 19-16 on Mirage. Endpoint had two stars, while BIG had no real carry except perhaps Elias “s1n” Stein, who finished the match with a K-D score of 71-61.

In the second match, SAW nearly eliminated BIG. On Ancient, the score was 22-19 in their favor. On the next two maps, BIG played much better but still needed a round of overtime to win the match. The scores were 16-7 on Vertigo and 19-16 on Anubis.

The 3rd and 4th matches of the tournament were won by BIG without losing a single map. However, the scores weren’t always decisive. Against los kogutos, for instance, BIG won the first map 16-14. In the Grand Final, sdy received too little support from his teammates and BIG completely dismantled Monte: 16-8, 16-11.
