Fnatic deliver by beating 5yclone in ESL Pro League S18 Group C Mid Bracket

On September 15, two ESL Pro League S18 Group C matches were played, and one of them left us with a more-than-expected victory for Fnatic against the Chinese squad 5yclone. There is no doubt that Fnatic had to show their chest, assert their status as favorites, and, above all, use all their experience at the highest competitive level to win.

However, it is also worth noting that the Chinese squad was not an easy opponent for Black & Orange, as they came very close to winning the first map of the series. However, Fnatic had the necessary mettle at the end of the map to win the crucial rounds and thus take the victory.

Just like Imperial, now 5yclone will have to play for their lives in the Lower Bracket of this ESL Pro League Group C, and their lives are over; that is to say, one more defeat and they will have to go straight to the airport to get on a plane back home.

It all started on Inferno, 5yclone’s map pick, where we had a back-and-forth match during the 30 rounds that were played.

In the first half, we observed the grit and determination of the 5yclone guys led by Andrew “kaze” Khong and Yi “JamYoung” Yang, who were in charge of repelling several important attacks from Fnatic and led their team to a partial victory by 8-7.

Then, when the sides changed, Fnatic woke up and won 6 of the first 8 rounds to take a 13-10 lead. However, the Chinese squad woke up immediately and evened 14-14. Finally, Fnatic pulled out all the stops and managed to win by 16-14.

Vertigo

Next, the teams moved to Fnatic’s map pick, Vertigo. This time, things changed dramatically, as Fnatic used the momentum from the win on the first map to succeed in Vertigo and, in addition, both Aurélien “afro” Drapier, William “mezii” Merriman and Fredrik “roeJ” Jørgensen, had a spectacular series and carried the team throughout.

In the first half, Fnatic started with the right foot to take a resounding partial victory in their CT Side with a score of 11-4. Finally, the Chinese squad could not stop Fnatic’s attacks at the change of sides and fell with a score of 16-7. As a result, Fnatic will play against Apeks for the third spot in the ESL Pro League S18 playoffs, while 5yclone will have to play for their lives between Saturday and Sunday in the Lower Bracket of Group C.
