The quarterfinals of Worlds 2022 were epic. The first two of them were masterclasses in which one team defeated their opponent without losing a single game. The other two were struggles for both sides and their scores were 3-2.

Unfortunately, the two dominant teams, JD Gaming and T1, will meet in the semifinals. So the tournament won’t have the most balanced Grand Final. But it will still have two balanced semifinals.

No less than three of the four teams that are left in the race are from South Korea. It seems that 2022 has been been a great year for the region, even though the Mid-Season Invitational was won by a Chinese team, Royal Never Give Up.

JD Gaming vs. Rogue

The Europeans had no chance in this match and everyone knew it before it began. But we did not expect a 3-0 result.

JDG were the strongest team in LPL in the second half of the season and their regional performance was off-the-charts: 14 W – 2 L in the group stage, followed by three consecutive wins in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see how strong JDG are when the opponent is from LCK. In the group stage of Worlds 2022, JDG had to play against DAMWON and they only won once.

T1 vs. RNG

This match could have had a much closer score. The battle itself was tougher for T1 than the final score indicates but the South Koreans proved to be very strong, both tactically and mentally.

When they were ahead, they knew what to do to stay ahead. And when the situation looked unwinnable, they had the strength to carry on. In many people’s eyes, T1 are the number one favorite to win Worlds this year.

Gen.G Esports vs. DAMWON Gaming

Gen.G Esports won the first two games and it looked as though the match would end very quickly. But in the third and fourth games, their drafts were greedy and they got punished for it. Both times, DAMWON won in around 25 minutes.

Game five was tough for both sides and lasted 45 minutes. Thanks to the champions they picked (Viktor and Lucian), Gen.G had an edge in team fights and they eventually won the battle.

DragonX vs. EDward Gaming

This was probably the most epic match of the quarterfinals. EDward Gaming won the first two games but those wins revealed all of their secrets. DragonX quickly learned from their failures and started to draft and ban very differently. In the end, they managed to make a comeback and secure a spot in the semifinals of Worlds 2022.
