Worlds 2020 is getting closer and closer to the end. The Semifinals are scheduled for October 24th – 25th and in this article, I will take a brief look at them.

Top Esports – Suning

These two teams know each other very well. And that’s because they’re both competing in the LPL. A quick look at their results in this championship reveals the massive skill difference between them, at least in theory.

Top Esports finished the LPL Spring Split in 2nd place and the LPL Summer Split in 1st place. They also won the Mid-Season Cup. By contrast, Suning finished the Spring Split in 11th place and the Summer Split in 3rd place. They did however beat JD Gaming in the Quarterfinals of Worlds 2020. And JD Gaming was supposed to be the 2nd best team in China. At the same time, Top Esports struggled against Fnatic and had to make an epic comeback to win the match. From 0 – 2, they managed to win 3 games in a row.

The last time they encountered each other, Top Esports won the match with a score of 3 – 0. This happened in the Semifinals of LPL Summer 2020. I think they’re going to win again, but this time the match will probably be much harder. Suning has grown a lot over the last two months and they are now a formidable opponent for anyone. If I had to guess, I’d put the final score here at 3 – 2 in favor of Top Esports.

G2 Esports – DAMWON Gaming

Both of these teams are giants in their region. G2 Esports is by far the strongest competitor in Europe while DAMWON Gaming is South Korea’s best team at the moment. Furthermore, both of them did really well against their Quarterfinals opponent. G2 Esports beat Gen.G Esports with a score of 3 – 0, while DAMWON Gaming beat DragonX with an identical score.

This clash is viewed by many people as the real Grand Final. The winner of this match will almost certainly win the tournament as well. G2 Esports has the advantage of being more experienced at this competitive level. After all, they’re the Finalists from Worlds 2019. On the other hand, DAMWON Gaming is from South Korea and we all know just how great this country is in esports. From the early days of StarCraft, to League of Legends and then Overwatch, South Korea has been making history in competitive video games from day 1.

This match is almost 50/50 and could easily be won by either of these teams. Personally, I hope that G2 is going to be the winner, simply because I want to see them win the whole event for Europe. This region has been living in the shadow of South Korea and China for many years and it would be quite impressive to see that an organization from Europe can actually contest them. A victory for G2 at Worlds 2020 would be almost as impressive as Serral’s victories in StarCraft 2 against the South Koreans.
