An advertising agency in North America is set to launch a big-prize pool Fortnite esports tournament exclusively for women in the region.

Esports Insider reported that Gonna Need Milk, an initiative from North American advertising agency MilkPEP, will launch its The Milk Cup.

This tournament will feature female North American Fortnite players battle it out for the chance to win its US$250,000 prize pool, which will be distributed among three different events and an on-site LAN finals. This total prize pool is the largest-ever for female-only competitive Fortnite in North America.

The Milk Cup will be operated by Radiant, a women’s esports platform, and will have three Major tournaments spanning May, June and July, and will conclude with a LAN Grand Finals event in Autumn 2024 that will be broadcast on Twitch.

Each of these majors will have a US$25,000 prize pool while the LAN finals will have a US$125,000 prize pool.

“99 trios of the best Fortnite players will attempt to outlast one another, over four events, in an effort to claim the largest North American prize pool in women’s esports history, and the first-ever Milk Cup trophy! Plus, all travel and accommodation expenses are covered for the IRL Finals,” The Milk Cup stated on its website.

According to a release reported by Esports Insider, Gonna Need Milk aims to “fuel change within professional gaming” through giving women a platform to compete in a high-level Fortnite tournament.

“The prize pool intends to ‘address this pay gap’ between male and female esports players,” Esports Insider reported.

MilkPEP CEO Yin Woon Rani said in a statement that the tournament underscores their company’s commitment to “actively listen to the gaming community and value their ideas and feedback.”

“Gonna Need Milk has a long legacy of supporting and fueling women athletes. We hope to inspire and motivate young girls and women globally and create a gaming industry that supports and rewards talent,” Rani stated.

Open qualifier formats will be used for the tourney and the Trios BR format will be played. More information can be found about the tournament through this website.
